Yeah I'm planning on it. I'm also going to gather all my pictures to prove it too.

Jay - what a drag. Can't believe they don't take better care of customers and stand behind their product. I was considering an Alcan setup for the troopy, but after Foggy's and your experience with them and some other tough stories, no dice.

I'm leaning towards OME in the front and a set of GM 53" 3/4 ton springs in the rear with air bags. Might be a nice setup for your 45 as it would give you some ride/load setting options. Just a thought.

Hey J to me the fronts are ok in that they 'Alcan' have gotten those down in that they are the same as a fj40 so they have had alot of time to get those wrong aover and over again and finally get them right. if it were me I would keep those and run them and concentrate on the rears.
I had OME on my fj62 and while it ran great they did sag. uniformly all the way around they sagged but they did sag. 2.5" of lift is not alot of lift. I would talk to profits they have done some neat things with suspensions. and I would consider randy's idea or fj60 rear springs or setting up your own springs from different packs. I mean hell its not like you really want to get it on the road anyhow :D

HA, Funny, I had a problem with Alcan springs as well when I was building a Jeep years ago. I see there customer service is still top notch.

Jason, here's the frame dimensions from the Toyota FSM. Give this to him and ask him again how far apart the spring hangers are supposed to be! 645mm+620mm = 1265mm = 49.8"

Well I have already sent them back once at a cost of $75 to myself. I didn't think that it was right for me to have to pay for shipping. I made this very clear when I was talking to Charles. He told me that he was already loosing money since he was going to fix them and cover this shipping back to me so if I wanted them corrected then he I would have to pay to ship them to him. He was supposed to replace the main leaf. I asked him what about the military wrap as the pin needs to be moved when the springs were lengthened. I told him that I didn't want him to just redrill the military leaf since it would too need to be longer. He said they don't half ass things.

I was able to tell they were my original leaf spring because I have painted them but I masked off the Alcan sticker and they are the exact same length but just flattened so I could bolt them on. I checked the new spring vs the old spring and I will be lucky if I am able to see 2". Probably less once I get some weigth on the truck.

Originally when I told him my spring hangars were 50" apart he said mine were incorrect and they should have been 49" apart.

I know JP has had a number of issues with his Alcan's. Most recently the ones he sent back wound up on eBay marked as "new"

Been reading all over the net it seems that Alcan screws up alot when it comes to measuring maybe they should go back to school to learn how to properly use a tape or measuring device. And maybe learn how to listen a little more also.
Remember bad news travels at light speed, I'm sure they have heard about this already.
Can you pursue a small claims court case against Alcan?

So I began tearing down the motor on the 80 to get at the HG and I was surprised (should read my buddy that knows engines was surprised) at how clean everything was on the inside. Apparently the PO had really done their due diligence when it came to oil changes. The coolant system however had been seriously neglected and whatever cocktail that was used came out as a greenish brown mess.

The HG was failing around the #6 and slightly around the #1, we found oil in the overflow tank, and the spark plugs which were replaced a few months ago were trashed but we got to it prior to any catastrophic events....I received the head back from the machine shop this weekend and was pleased to find out that there were no cracks or other issues. While we are in there I'm replacing the radiator fan hub clutch, water pump, t-stat, phh, resealing both oil pans (btw the upper oil pan is massive) and all gaskets needed to completely re-seal the engine.

We were pleasantly surprised that all of the bolts, and even the five phillips head screws on the oil pump cover ,came out undamaged. (ok I stripped the first screw and my buddy got the other 4 out no problem, ok he heated them and tapped them with the hammer but they came out, ok I lied those things were a pain in the a$$ but with the right extractor bit we got them.:bang:)

I'm just waiting for the radiator and few other parts to come in and hopefully I'll have it back on the road by this weekend.:steer:

The question I have, are there any tricks once the head has been reassembled and the car is ready for its first drive?? (i.e. drive the car 2 hrs at 1800 rpms in order for the gasket to properly adhere? followed by a coolant flush and oil change??)
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Scott

good to hear Scott. I got a call about someone loosing two valve seats on a 1FZ-FE head and Jaffarian parts was hoping I could help. Thought it was your truck. That would have sucked since they were 3 months out from Japan.

No special start up procedure here. I just start it and then let it idle. Watch all the gauges closely and make sure there is no leaks. The first start is going to be a little high but it should come down rather quickly.

post some pics of the internals.

haha yep those were my valve seats but 10 of the 24 came in and the machine shop had found 22 of the 24 old ones so i should be good. I'll try to snap some pics tomorrow night!

I was driving from work going to the shop to start tearing into the 40 and my rear pinion let loose on my 07 fjcruiser, they were replaced 2 years ago, there goes my 37" tire fund:crybaby:

isn't the ring gear a problem area on those FJs?

Ya that is the main reason I changed them out 2 years ago, so this wouldn't happen. These are Nitro from JT ring & pinion, figured they wouldn't brake just driving.
