Hello All
First I would like to congratulate you all , for this extraordinary forum . As you , I love Land Cruisers , old and new , and I collect much valuable info from MUD . So it is time for me to share some info I found some weeks ago , that I think is very interesting to the FJ25 group . By mere chance I found a picture with an old Land Cruiser , taken In Luanda , Angola , back in the late 60s , when Angola was still a Portuguese colony . It is a bad quality picture , from behind the Land Cruiser , so it is not really possible for me to tell if it is an FJ25 or an early FJ40 . That picture made me very curious . Such an early Cruiser in Angola , before the independence ? Who was the importer ? Made a lot of phone calls and found what I think to be information of some relevance , at least for those who care for Land Cruiser / Toyota History :
The 1st importer of Toyota to Angola , was established in 1958 , a company named IMAUTO , owned by Mr. Joao Mota Veiga Carvalho , and located at Rua(street) Salvador Correia de Sá , Luanda , Angola . Interesting that , yesterday , a friend confirmed me that Mr. Joao Carvalho is still alive , and travels frequently to Angola doing business ! I will try to post the early Land Cruiser picture , and another of the IMAUTO building , but I´m not sure if I will be able to do so . If I'm not able to post the 2 pictures I can send them to someone's mail so that everybody can see them .
