OK so a few questions. I've installed the Winch Plate, Winch and bumper, but I'm wondering if there is supposed to be as much gap as I've got directly below the grill. Currently about a 1/2" gap. There doesn't seem seem to be any way to push the bumper up closer to the body even after trimming.

2nd Question: how do you get the steel square out of the bumper so that I can fit the winch fairlead? The instructions seem to be very lacking in many of these details.

I just finished the same task. I have the 1/2" gap you mention, and frankly don't see an way to mitigate it. The frame ends are tight to the mounts, preventing the bumper from closing that gap. My frame ends were bent from a slow speed (I assume, as it happend b4 I owned the truck) accident, and despite my massaging them back into shape, may be affecting the gap.

As for the winch plate, I cut mine out with a Dremel cut-off disk. While I'm sure one could beat it out with a hammer, cutting seemed a better idea. It does look as though you could fit a hacksaw blade in the gap and cut the connections.

My LX is never again going to be a show rig, so I'm pretty happy with the result. And I'm sure it provides more frontal protection than the former bumper.

My nearly finished project- I've yet to hook up and spool the winch line. And I'm hoping my electrical kit shows up when I clean the shop....

Anyway- after, and before:

Q1 - I’ve got the exact same truck, and same gap. I don’t notice it anymore and its only been a few weeks.

Q2 - I used a little plumbers hacksaw tool and jammed the blade through the gap. Super easy, took me about 30s for each of the four connects. Clean cuts.

I’ve got the same winch and can’t wait to pull my truck out of the snow or mud or something. Maybe I’ll just pull it up a big hill :)

What winch are you using with this bumper?

I’ve got a Smittybilt X20 10k with synthetic line. I‘ll add, with nobody asking, that I am impressed with Smittybilt’s customer service - I broke the switch on the control box (knocked it hard into the new bumper :bang: and kind’ve stripped the mounting bolts :bounce2: and they sent me replacement parts in a few days without asking any questions, showing proof of purchase, etc...

Hey all, I ordered this bumper and winch plate from Bumper Superstore to replace by beat up ARB. I have tracking from Road Runner Freight showing it wil arrive tomorrow. For those of you that ordered from Bumper Superstore, do I need to be home to receive the order? Did yours come through Roadrunner? I just want to make sure that I don't miss the delivery window.

They called me to schedule a time to meet and sign for delivery. Then they showed up 4 hours early when I wasn't there and had to reschedule for the next day.

I've got another question - Has anyone been able to retain their factory recovery points? Would I just need to get longer bolts to allow me to use them?

Ok sounds good. I can work from home for the day it is supposed to show up. It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow, and arrive at the terminal today. But maybe I can just work from home Friday and have them deliver when they can.

I currently have trail tailor recovery points and the spacers because of the poorly designed ARB winch cradle. I just ordered some longer high grade bolts for all 4 holes to make sure they fit. I will re use those for the TJM install.

My recent delivery from Bumper Superstore came in 3 boxes- winch tray, parts, and the bumper itself. The bumper box was roughly 30" x 24" x 80", and weighed in excess of 120#. My driver (from Saia Trucking) has me down as a residential delivery at my place of work, and did not have a liftgate. I don't know how he would have gotten the box down from the trailer without forks. I'm not typically an alarmist, but I'd plan on being there.

I did the same thing as @changingground and kept the hook on the passenger's side. I'd love to buy a second hook for the driver's side, because, you know, symmetry.

Mine came through RR and my wife was there to sign. The delivery guys placed it in my backyard. The bumper is in one huge box that was pretty heavy. The winch tray was in a second much smaller box. I did the whole install solo (aside from my little man who was only good at kicking parts across the ground) so nothing is too heavy to manage on your own, moving around wise.

Thanks! Just remember, lift with your back so you don't hurt your knees.

Not my pics, but from the TLCA facebook page. A guy in a 100 with a T17 was hit head on by a Chevy beater doing 30+.

For all the people who doubted the strength and construction of the bumper.....held up pretty good. Hard to argue with this IMO.
