Tires: Tall and Skinnys?

I haven't. I only bought two for measuring/fitment on my 79 series project.

I've driven with biased ply tires on a car. Never again!!! Mushy feel was the way it felt. I can only imagine a truck being much more mushy.

all those poor sods from a way back that had no choice but to run bias ...

well, i will mount these ones up next week and go for a drive. one thing about me, if something sucks i will be the first to admit it.

as "old school" i am trying to remember all those old bias i burnt off the muscle cars being "mush". if anything i remember when the radial came out how weird it felt when cornering and the new radial would fold slightly where as the old bias wouldn't. there were many of us that refused to run the new tire design due to the float feeling that came with the design. decades later and we run radials on everything cause the ride is so smooth, the tires grip the road better, the tires last longer, and most of all the "cold tire" rumble is no longer.

but

bias has just as stiff, if not stiffer, side wall construction. of course you need to run proper air pressure in the tire.

I've been looking more at tires, what about the Toyo M55 in either 235/85R16 or 255/85R16?

The 235s are 32'' tall, 9.3'' wide and weigh about 8lbs less than the 255s, which are 33.3''x10.4''

Real world difference?

remember a 15" rim is only 1/2" smaller than a 16" (take the difference and divide by 2), there is a huge misconception that 16" rims make a vehicle much more stable. it isn't the rim that makes the vehicle stable, it is the sidewall construction of the tire that is important.
you will be fine.

Alright, should have some new tires early May.

I've decided on BFG All-Terrains, the only thing I need to be 100% sure on now is the size.

They're going on my 2010 Taco, and I'm split between 235/85/R16 (bout 32'' tire) and 255 or 265. Would 235s be too skinny?

Dunno, I guess I'm worried it might look a little silly if they aren't even with the fenders. Though really looks are secondary anyway. Just curious.

BFG A/T's

I run BFG A/T's on all my trucks and have had really great luck. The first 60 pic is with 33x10.50x15 on OEM 15x5.5 steelies. They tended to balloon up in the center of the tread area due to the narrowness of the rim (5.5). The second pic shows the the same tires on a wheels widened to 15x8. Much better contact patch.

Good luck.

I have some doubts.

Not just talking about the skinny tires, but also high tires, meaning that there will also be differences in the mechanical and consumption per gallon.

I have not read anyone who has made a comment about the difference in the speedometer, the ring & pinion ratio, as well as fuel consumption, which affects also understand that by changing the dimension of the original tires.

I guess that is also important to mention turning point.

Personally, I took those differences into account, and I feel that anybody who is modifying their rig to actually do off-road work will do and has done the same. I guess they are something we automatically take as coming with the territory.

That said, the BFG AT's I'll probably order tomorrow are going to be skinnier and only slightly taller than my stock tires, so I'm not expecting any real difference in gas mileage; however I know the speedo will be off slightly :p

Here's my truck on BFG AT 235/85R16

This is probably as clean as the tires will ever be :bounce:
