Can someone give me an idea of how much time it should take a professional mechanic to remove/replace the 6 bushings and 2 shackles on the front springs of a FJ60?

Thanks,

A fully equipped shop, with a lift, and an experienced mechanic should be able to knock it out in under an hour. If everything's rusty and stuff breaks, maybe 2?

I did all of mine (front and rear with OEM bushings) in probably 3-4 hours without a lift. I had to fight some of the pins though.

Results may vary..

It can go quickly if the bushings haven't welded themselves to rear hanger pins, front shackle pins or the spring eye.

It can take almost a day of cursing and struggling if the old rubber has become one with the steel and the rear pin has become one with the frame.

No way to guess.

Having spent several years managing a salvage yard/repair shop and seen numerous vehicles half the age of a 60 series have stubborn bushings, I can attest to the veracity of this gentleman's statement.

I installed a lift on a clean JDM rig front and rear in 3 hours with putting in all new pins and shackles bushings etc. This was by myself using an engine hoist to lift one end of the truck at a time.

I have also had the pleasure of burning bushings out of a rusty crusty 60 that took me 2 days and about 10 total hours of work to get the stuff out. Everything was so mangled and I was so pissed that I then traded the stock style pins for the greaseable ones from Cruiser Outfitters so it would never happen again!

Air tools are worth it even in your own shop if you can borrow or wrangle them!

Using a puller to push the center pin worked like butter on 7 of 8 and the 7 removed in less than an hour. Of course the last pin was rust welded in place and only a torch, BFH and this puller allowed it to remove while taking at least an hr of time. Your results of course may vary.
Use some penetrating oil daily and drive it for a week prior to doing the work.
