Have a 67 FJ recently noticed a ticking noise coming from front right underload and cruising any thoughts as to what it coild be would be appreciated. By the way its a 3 on the tree.

Stop calling it an FJ...

Why? That's what it is--I have one too--it's an "FJ"40

Use a length of PVC as a stethoscope to help track down the problem. It could be an exhaust leak echoing around from the other side, or you may need to adjust your valves.

Nope, it's an "fj40". An "FJ" more-properly refers to an FJ Cruiser.

Well I took it on a 40 mileish drive there is a chatter coming from where the clutch and flywheel would be its also difficult to shift. When i put light pressure on clutch the chatter gets quite....Are the any adjustments i can make to the the clutch....or any ideas what that damn noise is the engine is rebuilt and runs like a champ and at a rock solid 160° degrees.

@ Pighead thanks for noticing what I call my 1967 FJ40 aka Toyota Land Cruiser. My FJ as I call it earned those letters at least 25 years before the Cruisers even came out as I call them. So please do me a favor and dont distract from the simple an honest question I asked and the other forum members offer their time patience and energy answering my dumb questions as I try to keep a 47 year old FJ on the road and in the mud.

This would be only a speculation but it sounds like the clutch might have been adjusted to tight when the engine rebuild/reinstall took place...A lot of times I see people have the throwout bearing riding on the pressure plate which will cause the bearing, pressure plate and clutch disc to wear out prematurely. That bearing is not designed to be constantly spinning thus wearing it out and since it is constant contact with the pressure plate it acts as if you are riding the clutch all the time. The noise you're hearing is most likely the throwout bearing but combine that with hard to shift and it sounds like it's time for a clutch job. HTH

That's what I was thinking as well.

Did you notice you wife took out a large insurance policy naming herself as beneficiary?

X3, if it was a leak or your valves you would probably hear it at an idle too. Good luck with the clutch...
