Thoughts on importing a HZJ75? (1 Viewer)

I bet a 1HD-T swap would cost well over $10k, if you got a really good deal on a motor. Probably more. Get some quotes before you go down that path.

What's the trailer you want to tow? If towimg, are you sure a troopy is the right vehicle for you?

Have you visited with Steve Jackson yet?

@WideAngleWandering, yep sounds like turning the 1HZ into a 1HZ-T would be a less painful option. But that is a down the road "to do", need to actually get a solid Troopy first, just trying to look ahead. Small lightweight sled trailer with one or two sleds max, nothing heavier than that.

@cruiserdan, I have pm'd back and forth a bit with Steve and talked to him once on the phone. I realize I am just starting this adventure and will let the process take as long as it has to for finding the "right" one. In the meantime just want to learn as much as I can and start making connections with knowledgeable people on here.

Steve would be my first stop. I have seen his merchandise in person and he has provided the museum with a few vehicles.

Didn't realize this was still for sale until just now. I'm curious about a few things that I have yet to research as this is different than what I have been looking at. How is the 3B engine at altitude? I live around 9,000ft and would like to turbo but that will have to wait a bit. This Troopy only has the single fuel tank, I was planning on importing a twin factory tank Troopy. How much should I expect to spend on professionally installing a second tank? Finally, how much would A/C cost to install? Thanks for the help everyone!

The second tank (auxiliary tank is the official name) is the same as the main tank on a SWB or MWB 7* series, they are not too hard to get hold of. Bosch make fuel switching solenoids if you cant get all the factory set up.
Long Ranger make a larger tank that bolts into the auxiliary tank position ,about 135 litres. It uses the space more efficiently.

I was told this when I turboed mine.
Buy a 1hd-t and sell your 1hz.
It would have probably been a better thing to do, though I do really like my turboed 1hz

I've never had the opportunity to drive a 1HD-T powered Cruiser but I'm very pleased with my 1HZ-T. It responds well, even with the automatic gearbox and moderate boost and the operating temps are very reasonable. It's easily the smoothest running diesel I have ever owned.

^So true. I just bought an HDJ81 and am very impressed. It is a very modern feeling diesel, with smoothness and noise levels comparable to TDi's that are 10+ years newer. A great engine for highway cruising, with good hill holding power and mid range torque.

@ozcrusier I do like a lot of the things done to it, I would like to "clean" up the exterior a bit. That seems easy enough, my real concern is the engine specifically the turbo. I have messaged the seller asking when the turbo was installed and what turbo it is. Waiting to hear back now.
