Thoughts on importing a HZJ75? (1 Viewer)

@Billyfj7312ht, I am trying to figure out what that balance is. Don't want to overpay but also don't want a headache once its here. Definitely trying to buy something I can enjoy right away and slowly improve over time.

@1978HJ45, Thanks for the leads. I have contacted both of them, waiting to here back from @SteveJackson. @chrisspaulding got back to me, I like the idea of a LHD Troopy but he says they are hard to locate. It appears that a Troopy from Australia will be the most economical to import, I think? Thanks for all the leads
 
Anyone know how or if I can change the title of my thread? I want to change it from HJ75 to HZJ75. Thanks

On another note is it Troopy or Troopie? I have seen both and wonder if most of you agree on one or the other.

I've usually seen Troopy or Troop Carrier in Australia. These are a few instagram pages I follow, lots of great trucks to drool over :)

You guys do know that the 73 series is the ultimate 7X series?..right?...... I mean its folklore over here how it all started back in the day.

Having been through shipping a few hundred times; things to consider: Most cost effective is roll on roll off vs container. Not all ports support roll on roll off. A set in stone shipping agreement should be taken with a grain of salt. When dealing with US customs nothing is set in stone as they can order any number of examinations that can add hundreds if not thousands to the shipping fee. Do set aside extra funds for shipping. Find out what your state requires for title! Oregon requires stamped documents, however customs today sends out electronic forms....you have to make a special request. Anyone can import a vehicle, but at the end of the day what type of headaches do you like.
 
Thanks for all the info everyone. I have been searching a bit and it sounds like installing cruise control is a bit of a job. Maybe I have not found the best thread yet as I'm guessing this is covered somewhere. What is the best and or easiest way to install cruise control in a HZJ75? I realize this could be two different options, if this is covered somewhere please let me know where to go. Thanks
 
Easiest way would be to instal an old fashioned mechanical set up but there are some good after market electronic ones around now.
Ive had a few 7* series and the mid wheel base model was the best, but the 77 series would be even better if you need the extra length. The troopy is a waste unless you need the extra space.
You would be crazy to pass up on a good JDM 77series . A lot of troopys live hard lives.
The 1HZ is much better than the 2H on the highway.

Driving a diesel Cruiser, especially a normally aspirated version, will require full time "driver participation." I'm not sure you'll find a cruise control to be a good investment.

**driver participation..... Nursing it up the hill as the speed bleeds off and rapidly (slight exaggeration) regaining that speed as you zoom down the other side. A cruise control would take away that enjoyment. : )

@roscoFJ73, thanks for the feedback, defiantly want a troopy not interested in 4 doors. The back will be set up for work and sleeping. Plan on doing two long drawers underneath and having the entire top of the platform (width of the doors) slide out for access to tools.

@1978HJ45, I have driven manuals with cruise before (and love it) and I understand its for longer, flatter, stretches of driving. I want it for when I am on longer stretches and highway driving. Any reasons its a bad idea to install?
