Thoughts on GX pricing

I will either sell it or keep it. No need to part it out as I am not selling for any real reason, just moving within the hobby (possibly). Paid off trucks are the best trucks!

Im just gonna say, Dan, that when I bought my AMG, I too felt it was a good car with clean and complete service history. I had done my diligence , but that vehicle STILL cost me THOUSANDS in parts alone (often used) and I did my own labor or it would have been nearly 10k. I had to replace the front wheel bearings, front air shocks, driveshaft, rack and pinion, driver window switch, power steering pump, and the transmission left me stranded when fluid seeped past a seal into the electrical connection. The ac compressor was on its last leg when I traded it in too.

It was however, the most fun car I"ve ever owned, but I dont think I'd do it again. I think you'll really miss the reliability of the GX.

Theres my final 2 cents, but I wont charge you this time.

lol, that is sort of why I am hesitant. I have been spoiled by toyota stuff for 15 years

These 470 GX's becoming like the toyota 80's that their price went up these are gold you guys better do not ask too little specially after all work and parts it has been added to them if I would have price the DanKunz GX it would have been right around $24900.00 there has not been a SUV in market in past or present that give you the best of both world ,comport and luxury yet capable of going to desert and keep up with the best of them my GX most of the time get parked up front with Aston Martin's and Benz's in a valet parking of course not by my request

I was thinking $25k myself. I have used it, but spent more than that on the platform and mods. Accounts for depreciation and "lost value" that is normal with building a truck.

I am thinking $25k might be a bit high, but I am going off of what I am seeing on eBay right now with the other 2003 that is for sale. I don't know how yours compares to that one, but I would think it would give you a good idea of the market. I also know one build is not the same as another.

This is just what my thoughts are, I hope you get what you are asking or very close to whatever you ask. As my girlfriend says, there is a butt for every saddle.

I have WAY more than the one on Ebay. I did a full build, not just a few things...plus it would include a $1000 ipad mini and associated mount, plus a HAM radio with external antenna.

then that does change a lot, I am looking at apples and watermelons.
I am going through your build right now.

hope I didn't offend you, that was not my attention

Not at all, I asked the question :)

So my final deduction is that I will be keeping it (thanks for all the input) and instead look to sell the 80 series, recoup some cash, and go long travel front and rear, do some wheel bearings, and maybe replace the rack proactively. Keep it a while, wheel it, enjoy it (it is my favorite build to date) then see where the cards take me.

Thanks again for everyone's input!

The eBay one in AZ was just re-posted and knocked down almost $3k.

BTW Dan I think you are making the right decision on keeping the GX but be ready for the crappy 80 market. That is why I am currently parting out my 80 on the war to my GX. Although my circumstances were a little unusual with a fully built rig that was going to need a new tall block or engine swap.

If the 80 doesn't sell, it doesn't sell. No biggie. I can upgrade the GX and keep the 80 as well, just have to think about driveway space. If someone wants the Avocado, then that works too.

Is there a reason to believe the market on 80 is softening? I've been watching it for a while and it doesn't look like 80 values are dropping especially for locked/good condition examples.

Hit up SouthSS when your ready for the long travel. .. he just did long travel on his and is the only one that I'm aware of ... he can get you hooked up ... or at least give you a heads up

Oh, I know how to do it here at the house, no worries. Done more than a reasonable number of lifts and such over the years, but thanks! :)
