I am toying with selling the GX to go a different route.

Wondering what the heck to even consider as a value for a custom build such as mine.

Well i just paid 14k for mine (05') with 109k miles and that was the cheapest in Louisiana ... similar ones averaged around 16K and that's about what kelly blue book is ...
When selling a custom its only worth what someone is convinced it is worth to them and many times you'll have to wait around for the right person to get the right price ...
How i price a custom (if the customization is at least a year old) is add up a collective price of after market goodies that you have put into the vehicle /divide that price in half and add it to blue book and that should give you a good start ... and sometimes your lucky to get that
some may disagree but rarely do aftermarkets and custom work add any actual value to a car ... in the realm of where value actually matters like an insurance company...
you'll have better luck getting your price from someone who is a 4wheel enthusiast like a MuD member... or even better ,but takes more time ... bring it back to stock and sell the other parts separately ... that's why people part out vehicles on ebay

I am kind of in the same boat. I have a very nice Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon that I am selling to get into a GX. Right now I am priced high, because if I don't sell before the snow hits, I need the 4WD for winter, but come spring that will change. When I look at buying a build truck/SUV, I look at how was the build done if I can get that info and what will it cost me in parts to the build a like truck/SUV. Not too worried about my time, I like doing that stuff.

The GX for sale on eBay right now, to me is a good buy if you want that high mileage and that year, I am going to look for something 05 or newer and with less than 125k miles, but keeping an open mind. Now I know it will cost me every bit of $6-8k to do front & rear bumpers & lift, but I will take a year to do that stuff. Just this alone will price me over the GX for sale on eBay. Even with the eBay GX being an 03 & the miles on her, if my Jeep was sold, I would be looking hard at that one.

Something I think that is too your advantage is that you are well known in the GX communties and I think that will help in selling your GX.

Good luck and can I ask what is next?

Thinking of getting a Mercedes G. Have a line on an "affordable" one :P

Would also be selling my 80 since I barely wheel these days and family/sports/work is taking over for a few years.

outstanding, its great when we can try new things.

looking at getting out of my Rubicon, don't rock crawl, like the idea of more expedition stuff, do longer trips (next plan is Goose Bay, Canada) and the trails around Ouray CO, which I know a nice GX can do and be more comfortable getting me there.

hey i know a guy thinking about selling his GX

I've followed your build and know you've done amazing things, but others will think it's been wheeled the piss out of it and the reason for selling.

You've created things in the minds of GX owners and I love it.

Thanks for those comments, it is by far my favorite build of any of the 13 Toyotas I have touched over the years. Anyone who has known me over the years knows I move around on the truck front quite a bit. This time I wanted to take care of a life long Mercedes G wagen urge I never got to take care of. If it works out, I get one. If no one wants to offer me what I think it is worth (given the investment of time and money), I guess I will keep it and not worry too much. It is long paid for, even the mods, so I am not hurting, just looking to move around in the hobby :)

You goin for the G55 AMG? I used to have the CLS55 AMG which is the same motor AND IT IS A BEAST. Let me warn you though, you will be spending many dollars and time on maintenance and broken parts. It will not be like owning a Toyota at all. Thats just the nature of a 500hp motor putting strain on parts that are 10+ years old.

Yep. low miles and good record at that. I don't plan on being a nut with the right pedal (and the owner before wasnt either) so hoping for the best on wear and tear. I avoided a G a few years back because of that...guy drove it like a race car and I could hear the gear whine when you accelerated.

upgrade the heat exchanger as soon as possible. Massive usable horsepower jump. I went from a 12.7 at 109mph to 11.9 @ 118mph from heat exchanger upgrade alone.

Holy crap, I had no idea they were that quick.

The E/C and even the S series is insanely fast with AMG. The G series is not that fast, but it is no slouch. I won't be testing those numbers if I get one :)

Oh I have been looking at S600's lately, so I know some of em are up there...I thought he was talking about a G wagen though, missed the CLS55 AMG part. :)

I highly doubt you will need to but if you get to the point where you feel like shedding any parts...I call dibs on the bumpers!
