What product exactly did you wind up using to remove the rear factory tint? Did your defroster remain in tact?
that is interesting... The rear hatch glass tint came off, but the side widows etched?

Looks so much better with black tint on there. I really dont like the oem mirror tint on my 80. Doesn't match with the front tint I put on. I brought it to a tint shop and they said they can't match the oem stuff.
Just last week I came across pictures of the process on my computer. I'll see if I can find them again and post up.
As for product... A buddy gave it to me, he used it at his detail shop to clean wheels.... It was an acid solution from what I recall...

Looks like AMMO has a different rear window that hinges in the middle. AMMO can you tell us what you have there?

I covet a window like that. I like the new offerings from LCP and YotaTech, but I really like the glass.
@89cruiserfj62 which glass is it? It would seem that the tint is slightly different between the moving and unmoving glass. By moving and unmoving, I mean the rear hatch glass does not move. It also has the defrost lines on it. By moving, I mean the third-row glass and the back door glass. The third row glass slides and the side windows go up and down through the seals in the door. I'm pretty sure the tinting system is different for these two types of glass.
Best of luck with that... Hope you didn't pay much money. The only way I found for those is to order clear.

Just a thought, has anyone tried a strong paint stripper? The tint itself might be organic... the solar reflective part is metallic and dissolves with acid, but the tint is more like a paint...

Here are pics of the back glass i found in the junk yard that started me wondering....
And here is the side glass with the same acid process... Needless to say it didn't work.
Unless your going for frosted glass... Don't wast your time and money. Buy clear factory glass for the sides. It's pretty cost effective in the scope of things.
The back rear glass is the expensive one, so if focus attention on that vis various methods to return to clear to retint like I did.

Dude if you can find a way, best of luck. I hope you find it.
Just posting my findings, you will notice in the last picture with my (blue glove hand) a "clear J" that was the only place on all 4 sides that came somewhat "clear". And even then the glass was frosted, you couldn't see out of it.
Again, hope you prove me wrong. However I did spend 13yrs in the window business and learned a few things about glass manufacturing. Not to say I couldn't be wrong, but don't want to see folks waste money when you can order factory clear and not worry about it. The back glass is the $$$ glass so if you can remove the tint there, your saving some serious $$$.
