I'll add mine to the list as well. Just finished it a little while ago. I won't include prep picts since I followed what everyone here did. I did take care of some rust before I Bak'ed it.

Thanks.
I was under a bit of a time crunch but I was still able to get three coats laid down and I’m really happy at how well it came out.

Btw, for those of you thinking about doing this….wear a respirator!! I wore one while I was doing body work, but when it came time to lay down the Durabak I started without one. Even though I was outside, the fumes still started getting to me after the first coat.:bounce: I put I the respirator back on for the rest of the work.

BUMP for a GREAT thread.....now it's my turn....40 bed has to be freed or rust, 2 coats rust bullet, then durabacked.....

hood looks great...any tips on laying out the lines?

hood looks great...any tips on laying out the lines?

Thanks folks.

Basically I wanted to emphasize the raised portion of the hood, and get the blackout effect. I debated whether I wanted to take the the black down to the front edge of the hood or do what I ended up doing. In the end I figured I could take it further if I didn't care for the look...but I like how it turned out.

I used electrical tape to mask the shape. It sticks well and allowed me to make most of the curves in one shot. The two corners at the front of the hood were too tight so I did have to get part of the turn, cut the tape, and come back in from a different angle to complete the turn. I ran the line along the edge of where the raised portion of the hood starts to transition up. At the front of the hood I took a straight edge and lined it up with the top edge of the two flat portions of the hood (to the left and right of the raised part of the hood) and found dead center. Then I dropped about a half inch and used a sharpie pen to put a dot for my center/turn point. In the photo you can see a very subtle drop from the left corner to center, then back up to the right corner. I figured that would help emphasize the shape and work better with the lines of the vehicle.

After I got the shape outlined with the electrical tape I went back and overlapped in with the wide blue painters tape to give me a safety margin when applying the Durabak. So far everyone who's seen it in person has really liked how it turned out.

No prep pics but the finished product looks good I think. Matches the colors well with the seats. 3 hours prep and 3 hours for 3 coats of light grey.

Ben...that looks good, you are color coordinated! did you do any rust treatement (Rust bullet, etc.) or simply paint over what was there, or get to bare metal then paint? Looks like you used a roller? any brush work for corners?

I look like this now and am getting ready for 2 days of grinding the rust and paint away....i like your bottom tub only look, but out of rust necessity im doing the entire inside.

Haha, glad you like it. The colors were a dead on match. The rust I had was just on the surface. Id hit it with a wire wheel for 2 seconds and I could see bare metal so I was lucky. Looks like yours is about the same just a bigger area. I went to the auto zone and picked up some brush on rust converter. Got the surface clean and painted that stuff on and let it dry. It turns the metal black as shoe polish and gets hard as a rock. Then i roughed it up with a scotch pad and rolled the durabak over it. It hasnt bubbled or pealed at all. Just amazing stuff. I did use a brush for some tight spots. Im thinking about doing the wheel humps as I have one spot of peeled paint not covered up where the jack holder goes and its driving me nuts. I also did my roof and that really turned out awsome. Missed a few spots but it looks great.

Outstanding! I hope my rust is surface only and afte 2 coats of rust bullet and durabak it can look that good...got any pics of the roof...I assume you did it in durabak white? where did you buy....straight from them?

Ive never worked with rust bullet but I can say the rust converter I used went on very thin and after the over coat of durabak you couldnt tell i used it. I did the roof in the same light grey. Im going to seam seal the gap you can see in this pic and touch up over it when I get home. In 2 weeks Ill be state side and I can get ya better pics if ya want.

Oh and yes I bought straight from them. Looking at your pics a little closer it really looks like just surface rust. Look into that rust converter stuff. Here is what eastwood has but I just used autozone stuff.Like I said ive never used rust bullet so either way.
