Get in touch with that guy in supercharged 80 that launched it over the tabletop at GMP a couple years ago. As I recall, he bent the front housing. Maybe he swapped the whole axle and he's still got the whole thing sitting there collecting dust after swapping it out.
Also looks like you got some good help there to.

I'm drooling at the thought of Franken80 with MORE flex, MORE gearing, more strength and STEERING! Didn't say "more" steering, cause there really wasn't much to start with, was there? :/
Gonna be an unbelievable transformation, no doubt.
I notice that rear shocks still haven't made the list though.![]()
Shocks are over-rated, heck Nick likes the challenge of wheeling without coils sometimes![]()

The goal is to convert a 9.5 SF rear axle into a 9.5 front diff with 80 series bells/knuckles/birfs. Since all this is happening, I am also moving the tie road infront of the axle, adding crossover steering, regearing to 5.29s (since I now have 2 9.5 diffs), hydro assist steering, AND 3-linking the front end...
Cottonlander here lurking in the GA Cruisers clubhouse...hope y'all don't mind.
Nick - looking forward to watching the build. I just re-read Eric's original thread on this the other day. Are you planning to use a RHD steering arm and setting it up double shear? They are stupid expensive, but Hellfire sells a set of knuckles with larger trunion bearings and beef high steer arms that would be awesome on a project like this.
Good luck!

I don't know if anyone still reads Peterson's 4Wheel magazine, but there is an article in the July '14 issue "Won Ton Axle, Swap Toyota's Toughest Axle into anything." In the article they install a set of the Hellfire replacement knuckles on an 80 axle.
Yeah, I just finished reading that Sid. (though some of the technical specs. were incorrect). I emailed Harry so hope they put a correction up. Not a bad article at all.
Why did you choose a 9.5" SF rear axle housing as opposed to the FF iteration? Was it just a "this is what I got for free" kind of thing or is there a design difference that makes the SF better?
