The Official Fraken80/Schedule80 Build Thread...

Well, the time has arrived....

After a few years of denting quarter panels, busting glass, tearing up the body, and talking myself out of doing some trails, I have decided to turn the 80 into a tubed buggy. Really the straw that broke the camels back was when I went as a passenger up to Windrock in TN. While up there I noticed that a lot of the trails I would have wanted to go on, my 80 would of had some serious body damage. So after debating over trying to sell the 80 and getting a mini or a gen 1 4runner VS just cutting up the 80 and making it a buggy out if it. This just seemed like the best option, because first off I already have the truck. Beyond that, it has lockers, coils, and already stronger axles. So the transformation begins...

Nick, what's the plan with this? 2 or 4 seater? Keep or lose the windshield? Reuse the sliders we made for you?

Plan on keeping the windshield and starting the cage from there back. I want to keep it so I still have some protection from limbs and what not while on the trail, plus wipers. Im planning on getting 2 suspension seats like yours for the front and that is it for the seats for now. Later down the road I plan to add 1 seat in the middle of the back so it would be a 3 seater. I dont want to put 4 in, because I want to have room for storage, CO2 tank, etc. After bobbing it in to being flush with the rear tires, its gonna get rid of a lot of the storage area I have now in the truck. With the cage, I want to attach it to the existing sliders and create it similiar halfass, but where I can attach a spare tire on the back without it blocking too much. On the sides I want to weld sheet metal similar to the formula toys so it will kinda be like half doors.

Feel free to share comments and/or suggestions...I am am very open minded on this build...

sheet metal similar to this but wrapped all the way around...

They used a fast disconnect that is used is race car bodies. I can not think of the name. On the cheap you could use rivets.

Looks like I may have to work on Saturday so I may not make it.

Sounds like it will be the usual Saturday crowd...should be a lot of fun cutting it up...

I was unbolting the front passenger seat the other night and found a nice glass :smokin: pipe...It was wedged between the rear heater and the floor board...Apparently I bought the 80 from a high quality pot smoker...:grinpimp:

It is a good thing you got the pipe out of there. You would have received a ton of crap from the peanut galley. Jake and I might stop by after soccer.

Nick,
What happens if it rains or u end up slinging a lot of mud in the cab?
What about bobbing the back into a bed and keep it as a pickup style?
Could you still maintain some rock crawling characteristics?
