That's right. Why do things always have to be so hard? And confusing? I knew from the very start I would publish all to see. Efficiency, pressure drop, and temps - both water pre/post and air pre/post. The part I had not counted on is people asking me if that's good or not? As no one else posts comparative figures. Lol

That's why I think actual data is the way to go... The more readings you can take and record simultaneously the more chance you have of making changes that improve things..... Many people use the seat of the pants dyno (not accurate or reliable from my understanding lol), but if they added a simple stopwatch and a known distance/incline they would have a more accurate info.... I think it was Matt McGinnes (sp) who published info from his tests with his laminover intercoolers... You could see what was actually happening which for me at least was helpful....

Don't get me wrong, I'm not picking on anyone here, but to my way of thinking, especially if your trying to sell your product, whatever that may be, bring accurate honest data.... There are usually up and down sides to every different design of anything....

My 2 bobs worth .....

Exactly right. We actually have had the opportunity to test all the different intercoolers we have removed. Before installing ours. I'm doing a Gturbo install currently on a 1HZ. I'm pretty sure its the same ebay intercooler these guys are talking about. I won't have time to test temps on it though.

My first thought is to publish the data you have on the intercoolers etc you have tested (ideally with brand names, but that may not be cricket) and make time to record the readings from the stuff you are doing.......

Yes I know this easy for me to say.... but if you have DATA showing your stuff superior or equal in performance and cheaper, I feel sure it would be time and money well spent.....

No, I won't be doing that. I'm not naming brands and test results of others intercoolers. Every intercooler has its place and options are a good thing. I've posted enough info on my intercoolers already, which is far far more than others. @35psi I have a 2.5psi pressure drop for a average of 85% efficiency (77-95% efficiency depending on conditions @ 24' ambient). The temps are extremely stable and don't fluctuate (its near a flat line although pre intake temps fluctuate wildly. The rest is posted.

Yeah I am going to do some tests on the eBay one.
What temp gauges are you running TBB?

Ok, this is only to show you the problems you face when I installing to a 1hz.

First of all. This was a Chinese purchased intercooler kit. Though it clearly says HPD on it. Fan is of less than desirable quality. And the wiring is just chopped wires with no end fittings.

The install,
The first problem is they only supply 2x 2" silicone joiners and a piece of connector pipe. I had to buy a 2.25" to 2" reducer to get it all to fit. Out if the 4 worm drive clamps, 1 spun itself under hardly any force at all. So off to buy 4 good quality ones.

After sorting out the compressor side. I bolted the flange to the intake manifold. There is absolutely no way in the world any decent length bolt is going to fit the upper middle. The machining is far too tight and ended up have to make a bolt that will fit and only got 2.5 full turns on it. And yes I tried the alley key cap screws.

Then I tried to install the mounting bracket (no bolts supplied).

So far off, its not funny. Remembering the intake side it already bolted on flush and tight. Had to just leave it like that for the time being.

Now the wirring. Nothing was usable. It did come pre wired with a relay. But no ends at all to the fan.

And the ends they did supply where way too small for a terminal. Cut it off and add the correct size.

And after all this. I tested its cooling ability. Which I'm going to leave foreal to release. But a bolt in kit, it most certainly is not. There's stuff all components! How can they be so far out? It was sold as a 1HZ kit. I could have said nothing. But atleast now you know what your in for.

Yeah I have talked to a few people and they have the same issues. Apparently the seller says those problems are fixed. Lol we shall see.

Out of curiosity what did you get for efficiency numbers. Since we are going to be running different scoops and all. Bash away at it:)

I forgot to mention the bracket hit the pre installed fan before it could reach the mounts (again no bolts supplied, not even a piece of install instrcutions with a thread size). What a bucket of s***. lol

And ruin the fun supprise? This is all you. Ive said from the start I wouldnt comment on other intercoolers/efficiency. But I guess install problems is fine as I do have to installl alot of different brands. Does anyone know if HPD brand is actually made in china and they are supplying direct? Or is this just a blaitant rip off of it?

Might be worth contacting HPD about.
Sounds like I am going to have some modifying to do :meh:
I'll be in for some fun I am sure.

Out of curiosity for the 1hz equipped 70 series what have you had the best luck with in terms of air to air kits?

The key word there being 70 SERIES. Nada, 1HZ 80 series on the other hand :). I havnt gotten to the 70 series yet. Ill be building a 1HZ with all the fruit over the next 5 weeks. The best of everything.

Cool what's planned for the HZ?
Are you building it right down from the block up or just bolt on stuff.

Either way curious to see what you can crank out of it.

Chive on.

subscribed. I'm curious to see ForealBoreal's experience w/ the ebay kit. it seems like an 'easy' installation. minor wiring and some bolts is less pain for me than routing tubing to the front of the motor and finding space to have an IC and a winch.

of course, this is all just a distraction while I get ready to rebuild the darn hdt. :(

I think the eBay kit scoop really hinders it's performance overall.
I am hoping to get some decent numbers out of it when I have some time to get the thing on my truck.
Been really busy lately:$

I probably could start a new thread for this question but it relates to what is going on in here...

For your pumps or fans for your air to water IC's, what are you guys using for a temp switch for the IC, or are you? Are you just running a relay off the ignition so that it's running whenever the truck is, or are you just relying off the motors mechanical or electrical fans? Or is anyone using a temp switch with a fairly low setting at the intercooler ot output of the turbo?

Seems like a bit of a waste of power if the pump is running non stop, will at least at start up, idle and in my northern climate. -4 degrees celsius ( 25 farenheight) this morning here.

Yes, mine is just an ignition controlled relay for the fan and pump. It's a waste, but the same can be said about my headlights.

I think I found a temp switch, but I started a new thread in the diesel section about it. :)
