@ Sunset Beach before NYE. Not wild land camping but it was warm (relative to Northern Nevada right now :D) and always nice to hear the crashing surf all night long...

some snow play here for us Southern Californians

The KO2s did really awesome in the snow and didn't need to use chains.

Where was this? That's the kind of place I'm trying to get out to while the snow is here.

At Angeles Crest right near newcombs ranch. If you come up from La Crescenta towards Newcombs there will be a few side roads open near Charlton Flats and Chilao. Take a buddy if you want to go in deeper on those roads in case you get stuck. This was about 45 min away from me otherwise depending on where in Socal you are there is always Big bear, Wrightwood, etc more east of LA.

are those some sort of hydraulic or pneumatic jacks that are built inside?

Lower control arms off on both sides.... only left hand torsion bar removed? There isn't much under there that you would need to take those off to access so my money is on the LCA's themselves having failed. Chances of both bushings or ball joints failing at the same time is low and we know from the heavier front end diesel AUS 100 series that the mounting point where the torsion bar fixes to the LCA is a weakness... in Dakar conditions over high speed sandy whoops bottoming out again and again, I recon they both cracked.

wow!
it looks like there is a steering shaft going down to roof level. And then what? Maybe just an indicator for a real driver?

It's a "top drive", they're common down in South Texas for seeing over the brush. Usually, you can disconnect a steering shaft between the wheel and the roof, so the vehicle can be driven on the highway from the usual seat.

Never seen one on a 100 series.
