Yes, it's getting more and more difficult to get oil without added snake oil, the marketing folks are taking over the oil shelves. I've had to go to a couple of different shops to get oil on occasion for this very reason. I don't know how aggressive those chemicals are or how much they put in there, they don't give out that information.

If these rigs can handle Operation Desert Storm, Sub-saharan Africa, and the local mall parking lot, I assume they can also handle the occasional high mileage additive.

Most likely. Sort of a pet peeve... these marketing sneaks on what is basically a commodity item. There was a special "GDI" formulation I saw over the weekend on the shelf. GDI has it's issues, but nothing that involves the oil! It's like putting 'gluten free' on a bottle of water.

Seriously, take your wifes panties off before checking the oil.
It's not that complicated. Most of my girlfriends over years have managed to learn it!

If you've got the correct dip stick, wipe it clean, push it all the way home, remove, check, repeat.

a litre/quart above, or below the full mark is sweet. That gives you a 2quart margin before it drops below Low, then another what before the oil sensor is triggered.

Run it for couple of minutes after an oil change, otherwise, check it hot, cold, after 5min, after 20 min, after filling the tank, whatever. It's going to make f-all difference, soand long as it's not significantly lower time you check. and you have a 2 quart margin.
