Hi Mud!
Long time fan of the buggy crowd, and after my last trip to Greyrock OHV. I decided to try and build one. Now the Plan!
Dana 60 front
14 bolt rear
454 cid
1987 4runner frame
4 seater
8274 winch or PTO winch
40-ish size tires
What I picked up last week was a Clark 5 speed (NP-540) with a PTO box for the hyd dump bed out of my Dads 66 GMC dumptruck, so thats what I am starting with. I would of grabbed the motor, 366 v-6 -but my brothers friends used it for target practice (idiots). I know that I will need to get a divorced NP205 to get power to the front wheels.
I have done some searching on google, and found that the Clark can go behind some big block engines, due to the 13in clutch disk. Also it appears to have the same bellhousing mounting holes as the SM420. One site said an adaptor ring was needed due to the input shaft size difference. I have found no part numbers or anything except vague refferances to parts from different year trucks and makes.
This is the first hurdle- getting a motor to mate to the front of the Clark.
Wish me luck.
Ray
