Yeah, I need to get one. I was reading that the blue and yellow was the constant hot wire and I tried it. I'll check more fuses today after I get the gas tank in

She runs!!!! I found out a few issues I have, my brakes are not engaging so it's going in for that along with new pads shoes and rotors. The Radio needs wired fully, my sending unit is to long so it's stuck on a 1/4 of a tank. I need to wire up my cig lighter, put the skid on the gas tank, fix a leaking hose, put the front skid plate on and get my heater to work.

If the constant runs off the dome light circuit then I have to do something else as my some light isn't even plugged it as I don't use it from what I can gather from EWD's on it

Eh? What did I miss? :bang:

edit: Never mind, it was reported and Beno resolved it. Thanks Onur.

Thank you Beno!

Okay. Well everything is done. Fixed the brake issue put the brake booster on wrong! All that's left is fix radio, figure out my heater control unit not working. Wire up radio, install my neutral safety switch and fix the gas tank sender

Okay. Well I got even more done. I got the dash put together brakes working again (put the brake booster on wrong haha) CIG lighter wired up. Radio working (KLF is right it runs off the dome light circuit my fuse was just blown) heater working. Forgot to put the relay back on it haha. Then I took it for a test drive. Funniest drive in my life. I couldn't get past 50 in 4th gear because I left the e-brake on (still works) then my fender fell off because I forgot to install the bolts (its fine as well). All that's left is rewire a marker light, install the knock sensor, fix the fuel gauge sender and put the gas tank skid plate back on and wire up my neutral safety switch

So sometime this week I will be doing whole write up on this swap. I have details that I haven't seen on the web plus some tricks I learned.

FYI if it's a pre-8/84 truck you can run a double row chain under your timing cover, with wider metal guides.
@KLF If I'm understanding correctly since my truck was in 10/83 I can run dual row timing chain without a new cover? Wouldn't 8/84 be considered an 85 as well?

I'm also working on the write up finally. Had some issues come up, the fan clutch went out so I was over heating, fixed that with the fan clutch i rebuilt before i flipped my '89 and also greased everything besides the knuckles. For those with a Solid axle truck, here's a picture I've got of all the gease points on our trucks I believe. This is what I have for my '84 and it's spot on and ever is letter coded.

Hey mudder do you by any chance have a carbed harness floating around?

Sorry I they all went in the trash last week as most plugs were falling apart on it. Why? Trying to figure out plugs?

Yes, I did this on my early '84.

I have the entire harness out of my '84, yours for the cost of shipping.

Did you have to change the timing cover at all?

Okay, so I'm still working on the write up. Real life has been busy. I'm getting tireed of driving with my CEL on but no matter what I try I can't get the knock sensor hooked up. So I think it's time to cover the wire i soldered in with some shielding wire and rerolder everything and maybe then it'll shut off. I also have no power. I could not hit 60 mph today on the highway.

Nope. My memory is a little murky, but I believe during that generation of the 22R, they changed the chain to a single row, but left the cover with enough room to hold the double row. When the newer block came out in 8/84, they changed the cover so it would only fit a single row chain.

I seem to remember that after doing the conversion I had an issue with the oil pump drive spline. I bought my kit from DOA, and the shorter pump gear was too short, so the balancer rubbed on the cover and the belts didn't line up. This was way back in 1999, so I may be wrong. I think I ended up taking my longer gear to a machinist friend and he sliced it off in a lathe at the correct length. Something like that.

Well finally got the k/s sensor all figured out, bad soldering joint. Now ihave issues getting the truck to 60. I'm guessing timing and will check it tomorrow.

Does anyone have the wire for the knock sensor with the plug on it for an '89?

Hey KLF, yeah I had a guy ask me for one. I would much appreciate that harness if you have no use for it
