@NCFJ

Good news your guv' isn't in the lowest 6 ranked with their responses.

Hey guys! Been a while. I knew ONSC would have a good debate going here.
This article makes me laugh....the list of great governors includes most of the hardest hit/worst prepared/biggest offender areas. The #1 problem in this country right now is due to what Cuomo himself said when he responded to a possible closure of the tri-state area: ‘If you start walling off areas all across the country it would just be totally bizarre, counterproductive, anti-American, antisocial.’ God forbid we ask ppl to be anti-social right now to keep others safe.

We never should have gotten here, but Americans can’t be bothered with being considerate of others if it inconveniences them or with the government telling them what to do, no matter that we are in a time of crisis. Mecklenburg has one of the strictest stay at home orders in NC yet it’s a suggestion basically and is not enforced so it’s not followed. My neighbor in my condo bldg has friends in and out to hang out and socialize but thinks it’s ok bc it’s only a few of the same friends....same across several other people I know from work. And I can’t even get in to the stupidity of celebrities and ‘influencers’ in all this thinking it’s not at all tone deaf to post that they are happy and having fun in their gigantic mansions...or the idiots in our country that allow them to do so. Social media should not be an essential service right now, or the media outside fact sharing.

If you look at the countries with the most impact, they are all similar in that they culturally don’t like being told that they can’t do whatever they want when they want and our country is the worst. None of the data is accurate and won’t be until they test every single person on the planet so we need to quit thinking we aren’t going to be affected, bc no one knows for sure. The social distancing grades for states are also horrible and are showing inaccurate info...people in many of the ‘bad’ states have to travel long distances to even find a grocery store. Hell, we took a 3-4 mile walk today with my phone so sorry NC for screwing up the data here. Unfortunately we are past being able to allow people to make their own decisions because there are so many stories out there where people who knew they had covid went about their daily lives and couldn’t even be bothered to stay in. This needs to quit being a political issue now....our politicians and corporations (all of them) need to shut up, quit fighting, quit making poor decisions like adding money to aid packages for items that have nothing to do with covid or shipping supplies out of the country bc they want to make money. The sad thing is, we live in a country where common sense, common decency, and intelligent decision making are no longer part of our values.

In reading thru this thread, we all seem to get it....but until the whole country does, we are screwed.

Just did my weekly grocery run. Hit up the three grocery stores near me. Every parking lot was full of latex gloves everywhere.

I was cutting my grass a few days ago and have to cut the easement onto the busy street next to my house. I’m used to the trash that people toss out of their cars, bottles, beer cans, fast food bags, big gulp cups from gas stations and now I get to add latex gloves to the list.
I’m sure this will be the new norm for a few months.

Our store run today was the same thing. Large amount of trash and gloves all over the parking lot. Watching people in the store with their gloves and masks makes me laugh most of the time, as they are still touching their face, hair, putting their arms on the carts, etc., totally defeating the purpose of having the gloves on. They could at least take care of their own trash.

The more I read this book, the more it is clear we are the problem. Meaning, we hoomans. And our fears, superstitions, booogaaboogaa reptilian dark-age thinking issues, and always looking for the simplest answer even though it is stupid. Boogaaboogaa is a scientific term. Anyway, I strongly recommend the book, it does have some pretty impressive research on both viruses and bacteria. Corona viruses show up midway through.

In my grocery run, people are already bunching up even thou there are clear stickers on the floor at 6 ft increments. Also, lots of no masks. Trash everywhere and lots of gloves.

@NCNole The states that do not have the order have lost it and the church gatherings are so scary.

SE is getting hit hard because of health levels of the population. (Not fit, over weight, diabetes, etc.)

Not sure if this has been posted yet. Sobering graphics.

Quoting myself...quarantines must be getting to me!

I should have screen shot the projections for NC as of my initial post b/c as of today they have dramatically changed for the BETTER (e.g. zero shortages of ICU beds predicted and total deaths are now a third of what was initially estimated). The NC peak is now estimated almost 15 days sooner then before. These changes are a surprised based on info I had heard through Duke around their estimated peak to be in early May (this was early last week info).

The changes are very welcome but no reason for us to let down our guard.

I've yet to see any gloves thrown on the ground, or people bunching up at the store. Its sad I wish everyone could take it seriously.

that's incredibly good news. The peak was definitely April 23-26 I believe when I last looked. That chart basically says we'll be out of the woods by the end of April!

I made a Harris Teeter (Colony/Rea in Charlotte) run this morning. It was only maybe 25-30% less crowded than the same day/time in the past. About 25% of us had masks and gloves. Seriously, the vast majority of the rest had nothing. There was about an even split of "people who crowd aisles" and "people who avoid an aisle until you leave it". I only saw 2 employees wearing masks. I should be stocked up for another 2+ weeks now, and I can accept the fact that I won't have fresh vegetables from the store until then. I'm perfectly fine with not leaving the house unless absolutely necessary...I have multiple 80-100 year old people that I'm the responsible party for, and I'm trying to minimize spread by doing their shopping well in advance to let their items have time for any potential surface infections to die off instead of having to make multiple trips to stores just prior to delivery.

WRAL story on what you referenced:

And completely echo your sentiments, this is evidence that physical distancing works and we must not celebrate or let our guard down. And even if it all went away tomorrow so many of our friends and neighbors will need continued assistance until the economic engine is once again up to speed. Hoping we get there 🤞

I liked Gilbert Baez’s (wral) the best...he used a pair of boxer briefs for what could serve as either a mask or antifa rally head gear.
