Boo.

Because I can’t stay focused and chose not to fight it I thought it was a good time to rip all the wiring out of the buggy pig.

Target Carrier "stockish"!!! Right...and I look just like Brad Pitt.

I had an hour or two to get out to the shop and start laying out the new dash, still need to add some indicator lights, charge ports and crap like that but all the important stuff is in for now and I can start thinking about wiring.

The previous owner must have had someone with at least a basic understanding of wiring build this dash for him but after a year of heavy handed bumblefxxxery / race repairs coupled with the fact that the guy that built it only had a basic understanding of electricity, circuits or accessibility and used the red wire he had vs trying to use wire that’s capable of handling the currents, makes this old dash is a throwaway now. The new plan is to put all the relays and circuit protection in a place that’s accessible and use the correct size and color wire.

If you look close you can see that at some point they got tired of replacing the ignition relay and just made a permanent jumper wire but added a loose replacement headlight relay to dangle around back there in that mess??

I would love to track down the inevitable issue with "the" red wire...
Most of the time you just had to find "the" red 10 gauge wire that attached to the melted green 14 gauge wire that runs back to the accessory that didn’t work and bypass it or just replace the .22 shell in the fuse holder.

Funny how complicated people can make dc wiring. Also some of the worst haching done to old projects, aside of suspension “ upgrades”

New dash looks the part. We always painted the dash face black or wrapped in black vinyl so you could actually see the guages on a sunny day...

Thank you,
Trying to work on this between real work and other projects so it’s going to take a few weeks but I guarantee Megadoomer will approve of the dash color!

Started digging around in the SpeedHut box last night and noticed the GPS antenna cord is 12’ long so I spent the next few hours trying to figure out how to take it apart and shorten the cord. FYI it’s not too bad once you remove the sticker on the bottom and remove the screws, little soldering, little gluing.

Big box of colored wire, smaller fuse panel, some connectors and a main disconnect that I’ve been waiting for showed up last night so hopefully when I finish the big project for work in the next four or five days I can hit the ground running on this dash.

Haha. My dash is unfinished aluminum now. Guess what color it is going to be when I put the new gauges in.

Never! You are putting words in my mouth.

Clearly the opportunity to go Nebula!

Sorry Mega I ran out of huckleberry paint and had to go with flat black but I did manage to get a little more work done on the dash.

The Speed Hut gauges kind of have a funky plug arrangement and my original plan was to cut them off and hard wire them to the main plug but pulling individual gauges would suck if you had to replace one, plan “B” was to order some plugs with the proper amount of terminals and put a single pug on each gauge, as it turns out I said screw it and went with plan “C” and kept the Speed Hut plugs and cleaned the wires up a little with some sleeving. All these gauges will ultimately run to a cannon plug about 12” off the back of the dash and these little factory plugs will make it easier to remove a single gauge without de-pinning the cannon plug.

Trying to figure out spacing on the letters for the switches, for some reason this wasn’t as easy as I was thinking it would be.

Still waiting for a few more parts to show up but I’m getting closer.

Man, that does look nice! Can you talk more about those graphics (letters) I could use something like that.
