Hello guys and guyettes, Just spent the better part of a week doing body work on Tora Tora. Stripped and sanded, welded in patches where needed, lightly bondo'd some ares of concern, primered rattle can style, resanded, cleaned THEN the amazing Rattle can paint job began! Caterpillar Yellow. It has a few bugs and I'm sure a little dirt in the paint but hey it is after all a 4x4 off road vehicle right? No more worries about scratchs and all lol! Although it is my daily driver here in Asia as it is necessary at times and people drive like Ding Waus here so..........Love this forum! Take care all!:steer: Oh, forgot...it cost me $120 U.S. for paint, materials, and 2 laborers.

Very nice.

Caterpillar and John Deere make some high quality rattle cans.

Nice job!

I thank you.. Yes they do make some good durable paint. It was fun and and aggrevating at the same time.

Pretty smooth....color has kinda grown on me

I do have some pics of the process. Will post em up soon. And thanks guys, I feel like my baby has been rejuvenated some what lol!

Looks great!, I am thinking of painting the " wife's " FJ Cruiser that color :P I don't think I can get away with rattle canning it though!

It took 10 cans of sandable primer and 22 cans of paint and 2 quarts of bondo. Note: My LC is compiled of several years. The chassis is a 78. The engine is a 79. The hard top is a 81. The rear hatch and swing gates are from a pre 74. The tub is 78, the doors are...not sure :) and so on!

How hard was it to do the top with the lift gate. I have a 1980 hard top and a late 60's lift hatch and I have also scored a top bar for the hatch with the hinges. Do you have any good picture of making that hard top handle the lift hatch, modification for the shocks and latches? Would love to see or get details of that it took for the hard top.

very nice,

and the noce thing is if you scratch it just blast the scratch with some paint and done

looks fantastic

Biker Smurf has the same type top on his LC with a lift gate. I am not sure what he did but his looks factory compared to mine and he was the one that enlightened me on what to look for and how toos.. The most important thing I encountered was keeping the top and tub square with each other. I had to weld in angle in the rear opening, cut it down and other things but it works great and it sealed tight. I would be happy to take some pics if they will help you out.

That was my plan, keep spare cans on hand for touch ups haa haa! Getting a paint shop job around here is no easy task hence rattle cans galore :)

That Looks Great !!! No Shame There My Brother. I agree with you on not spending too much for paint, Then you worry about scratching it when you take it out. The Color is Cool. Great Job.

Many thanks to you guys for the kind comments! One thing about us Cruiser Nutts is; We will try anything once ha ha! One thing about stupid ideas, if it works, then it must not be stupid eh?? lol!
