Given the lack of spy shots or announcements, my bet is the 2019 4Runner is a carryover with few, if any, changes.

Correct, this is the 2019 TRD fleet. Spent a week with them last month on a media review. I can share 18->19 change sheets if you'd like. It did get a rack :D

I have seriously considered it. I rented a 2018 Range Rover Sport base model for a couple days and liked it, and the best part about it was that because it was light on options (and no doubt had a fleet discount) the MSRP was only $64k. It still had the Meridian sound, adaptive suspension, pano roof, and some other good stuff. The reliability has gone way up since Tata took over, and the RRS (especially the base) has at least as high if not higher residual than the Land Cruiser. Generally speaking, the RRS feels at least 5 years newer than a new LC from a tech and design standpoint, and it has presence on the road that few other cars can match at any price point. I would of course be one of the few who would wheel it which concerned me about durability in those scenarios, and after I weighed all the pros and cons it made more sense for me to stick with the LC. I would like to mention one of the biggest cons was that my wife hates the image the RRS conveys, and after having some high end German cars I can confirm people have some serious aggression to conspicuously nice cars. Also, I wouldn't own a RRS out of warranty, ever, under any circumstance, but they are not the same company they used to be. It's a seriously good SUV, and if you can find a lower spec'd one in the low to mid $60k range, it's not a bad way to go IMO.

The worst vehicle mistake I made was trading my 2009 LX for a 2015 RR supercharged. I hated it. They arent trucks. They are like station wagons. Kept it a little over a year. Currently in a 2016 LC. Very happy with it.

Man, there's a certain vehicle that is so conspicuously absent in this lineup! Off-road and overlanding is blowing up, yet Toyota for some reason refuses to step up to the plate with the reigning King of Overlandering! Sure hard to read as strategy.

I've been lobbying with a full-court press. More on they later.

^Yes. Really enjoyed that series Kurt!

Would love to hear more about Toyota's posture on this when the time is right. I swear I see more newer 16+ land cruisers as of late and there's seemingly more mainstream press and recognition for what it is, rather than what it is not.

I take my SUV off-road. During this last LCDC, we drove up an off-road track for a couple hours up to the top of Imogene Pass at 13,000’ elevation.

Uhh, there was a Range Rover Sport on Imogene when we were up there. 20" wheels with low-ish profile tires and all on a facelifted L320 ('09-'13). Gave 'em a big thumbs up.

And to those speaking to 2018 -> 2019 T4R TRD Pro, the biggest change is the MSRP, +$3,340. I suppose Toyota will tell you the increase is largely due to the upgraded suspension package under the Pro this year in addition to the basket on top.

I would hope that if Toyota decides to make a TRD Pro version of the Cruiser that they do better than this. All I see on that truck is for show, no real function. That flimsy jungle gym on the nose and those fragile sliders. That rocket box on the roof is so small it's not even worth carrying.

And what's that box on the floor by the LF tire?

I’m sure it can get up there. I’m just not confident in its reliability. It would really suck to get stranded up on the top of the mountain. I never will understand 20” wheels on an SUV that you take off-road — much more chance of damaging wheels, worse ride, expensive tires.

Not disagreeing with you at all, but I took my LX with 20" wheels off road last weekend and it was great. Granted that's with a 34" tire, so still has some decent sidewall. I'd of course prefer 18s or 17s off , but the LX is 99.8% pavement pounder, and the 20s are great on road. The KO2s in this size aren't crazy expensive either, most likely because many new domestic 4x4s come with 20s from the factory so lots of tire options in that size. Full disclosure - I did scrape a wheel on this fairly mild trail unfortunately, so damage is far more likely with more wheel/less tire you have :meh:

I'll pile in.

I'm not giving up anything running 20s here. I'll acknowledge I'm not extreme technical rock crawling. For my purposes and overlanding use, there's plenty of sidewall, and sidewall buldge, to keep the wheels protected.

Well, this thread took a turn for the better with these lx's on bigger tire pics...:clap:bravo, need to join the club.

They do, but just not in US. Looks at Australia's Toyota site. This is where I got my push bar from for my mall cruiser. It comes with proper 4 point support bolted into frame.

I bought my 285/55/20 BFG ATKO2’s for looks and thread width. If I remember correctly they were around $360 per tire. Could of saved $100 per tire by going with 275/55/20 but the thread width was 1” less and I wanted that extra inch for on road stability. Maybe I was stupid but that was the best advice on Mud at the time. Love the looks and handling of these tires.

I’ll stick with my 18” wheels.

I tear up my 17” wheels even with fat, protruding 35x12.5... 20’s on my rig might be scraped down to 19’s by now... :hillbilly:

If 16s would fit I’d take em!
