The problem I run into with the 16g is the back pressure with the turbine. I don't want to be running 12-15lbs of boost on cruise.

That's not a compressor sizing issue. That's a turbine sizing issue. I'm also not convinced you will run that much but I haven't got the 2 hours to spare to run the calcs right now.

Is there a calculator online that's worth playing with?

Nope. Closest you'll find is Borg Warners Matchbot. But it's setup to only work with some of their aftermarket turbos.

This is a fte housing. Smaller than the 7cm, also running the ct12/15b turbine...

This completely slipped my mind awhile back.

This is my current turbos setup just with a non fte bolt on compressor housing.

So yes the 16G with the 7cm would probably be great.

Have you pulled off the turbine housing to see what shape the blades are?

Aliexpress.com : Buy 17201 17040 LANDCRUISER 4.2L D Turbo Turbocharger CT26 1 For TOYOTA NEW from Reliable turbocharger gt35 suppliers on P&T Auto turbo Co.,Ltd. | Alibaba Group

I've been checking all the CHRA's available on Aliexpress and they're all crappy paddlewheel designs with poor flow and efficiency.
I did find one (out of about 40) Landrover 300tdi CHRA with an excellent turbine design. So they do exist.

A Sumulaya CHRA or even just turbine shaft would really wake up your turbo. Better spool, lower drive pressure and better top end flow.

I only posted the photo as reference.
Here is what came in mine way back when.
Figured I should snap a few while I was getting stuff ceramic coated (don't waste your money boys)

Here is the infamous TD05H.... in yes I am sure you can figure it out.
Also have photos of a 16G cast....

Yeah, your CT turbine is a paddle wheel. The TD05H is what I call a gen2. I'm fitting gen3 when I get back into it.

Can you elaborate on this setup then? Which CHRA housing and turbine wheel are you refering to in this setup? Are you still after a Toyota CHRA bolt in?

A Toyota CHRA with customized parts. TD05H turbine that would be customized to fit.

How much boost are you planning to run? It seems like overkill unless you're going for huge boost. It has ~46 lb/min max flow.

23psi, big intercooler, 3200rpm, ~170kw and you're still only pulling ~33 lb/min. You're still to the left of the sweet spot on that compressor.
Same but at 2200rpm and you're only pushing 25lb/min. That's right on the surge line.

IMO it's too big for anyone running less than 30psi at 4000rpm. Even 30psi at 3200rpm is okay for the 16G6 compressor.

My limiting factor at this point is my intake. The snorkel and airbox will be updated to a more modern 4" setup. This is in the plan.

The plan is to tune a 22:1 at full load, 18:1 down low. If this means 25lbs boost ok cool, I just want to get the most out of the pump. Should get ~150kw atw with the fueling the pumps set at.

I agree Doug. The 16g compressor is really more than capable for most guys unless you want the rpms. Like the rpms most of us would almost never run without cringing.

Yup, it's not a comp truck after all.

Anyways we will see where the Sunalaya thing goes. I think the more people to pressure them the better

Do you know how many cc/1000 shots you're looking at?

Does anyone know the safe upper limit for boost from a 1HD-FTE CT20B?

Just dropped off my mamba 11 blade comp wheel off to the shop that is building my turbo. The guy who runs the business thought it was a decent looking wheel as long as the metallurgy is right. The internals of the turbo I bought are in perfect condition so we think it was rebuilt recently. The turbo should be built by mid next week, my new turbine housing should arrive soon too thanks to Foreal.

@Dougal, do you use a CT20b chra to fit the TD05 shaft in? Looks like Greame used a turned down TD05 shaft to fit in a ct20b.
My standard ct20b explode at 25psi.

I don't have a Toyota diesel or CT26/CT20B myself. I'm just here as a guy who knows how turbos work.

What died in your CT20B at 25psi and How much boost do you want?

Bearing failure, I guess. Possible due to too much boost down low? (20-25psi before 2k rpm) Maybe early but hard to see. Shaft broke and bearing housing snapped. Hard to tell these days if it wasn't a chinese replica.
Was effeminately spooling faster than the Gturbo but cant compare very well because did the pump, injectors and turbo in one go.
