You haven't even given power goals for your truck.... I can't give you a good answer...

Your obviously not going to listen to what anyone has to say anyway so buy whichever one you want. It won't matter in the end.
That seems unnecessary.

You're absolutely right, I totally missed that part of your last post. As far as hard numbers, I can't say for sure. I'd like to be running about 20-22 psi, hopefully around 1,600 rpm. With my current stock setup, I have somewhat of a dead spot from 1,400 rpm to ~1,900 rpm when OD locks in. I'd like to get rid of this dead spot.

Assuming what others are saying is correct, and the eBay turbos flow 20% less than Graeme's option, what sort of specific power goals should I expect to hit with proper tuning and intercooler?

If you got a legitimate TD05H-16G6 with the 6 or 7cm housing i would say 1800 wouldn't be out of the question for that boost.
Honestly I would be hounding Sumalaya at this point. Performance 4x4 uses them for their 16 and 18g in the patrol world.
They are putting up good numbers and it goes to show that they can make a quality product.
Tell sumalaya you are willing to buy the specification they showed me and get one. That is your best bet.

remember this, there are supporting mods that will help your truck run good if you go chasing performance.
First gauges, Pre-turbo EGT, Boost and Trans Temp Gauge. Don't even think about playing with your pump if your not willing to install these.
3" exhaust will help big time in terms of grunt and response, also in to help keep the EGTs down.
I'd intercool it over 15lbs.

So add this up:

$500 gauges
$1000 3" exhaust
$1000 for a DIY ebay intercooler.
$1000 for a turbo.

There was $3500 you didn't expect. Not to mention all the other little gaskets and things you will have to change along the way.
Then if you are not doing the work yourself. Well shell out more money. This $1000 turbo may turn into a $5000 ordeal by the time you are done.

I totally have been too, that's the bummer ... they're unwilling to budge on the MOQ. I told em "cash in hand, me buy now" ... but it doesn't seem to phase them. It feels a little weird begging someone to sell me a product, even though I understand the rationale behind production run costs and MOQ's.

So the 16g's are known to spool earlier than the 18 or 20g's, is that the takeaway from this? Appreciate the help.

Gauges done ... I took advantage of the closeout deal Summit was hosting, and scooped up trans gauge and boost gauge for a whopping $7. I also have an Auber electronic EGT gauge, and am tapping for my fitting this coming Monday. Grand total = $84

Exhaust done .... $300 + $50 for second-hand AeroTurbine

Intercooler is next. I'm thinking of doing the 24"x12"x3" core w/ 2.5" tubing kit. $130+$99+$100 (for my buddy who can weld tig)

Turbo is $864 shipped on eBay atm.

Before miscellaneous crap, I have a grand total of $1,627. I can put the savings towards a valve body/TQ converter ... that's the next area of research. Until then, I'm supposed to just keep revs above 3k in 2nd/3rd and keep TQ converter locked when possible, right?

Oh and with regards to labor costs, I only let others wrench on my truck if it's something I can't do ... i.e. balance/mount tires, alignments, etc

I'll send another email and ask. Maybe more interest will get them to make a run of them.....
16Gs with a small turbine housing will boost early and won't surge.
18Gs with the small housings tend to surge. you can hear the turbo flutters with patrols even though those guys tend to fit 6cm housings with them. 8cm you are fine but its a late boosting turbo (starts coming on hard 2200rpm and above)
In my opinion you want the 16G variant with your goals.

The mamba one I am not sure about unless he can get you a 12 blade wheel. Ask Eiji, he responds to emails.

Totally agree with Karter's mods list.

Intercooler is essential from day dot IMO.
I'd be looking at 24×12×3" core with 3" in/out.
Some good deals on cores on evilbay. Just be a little selective. I wouldn't buy one that wasn't listed with clear photos through in/outlet showing the core inside. I've seen ebay cores that look like they were cut in China-town using a meat cleaver. Lots of the tubes blocked or crushed.

From reading some of the thread on the Patrol forum, 8 cm housing with 16g is too big. Too much of a bias toward top end power at the expenses of low end torque, several posts by guys who have swapped out an 8 cm housing in favour of a 6 cm housing.

@ForealBoreal
Have Sumalaya indicated numbers for MOQ?
What is manufacturing lead time?
If a group buy were realistically a possibility, how long from pulling the trigger to delivery?
How much down payment is needed?

Has anyone asked Mamba about an 11 blade Td05H turbine wheel?

Stop changing the known variable for simplicity sake at this point.

can you explain what you mean here? this thread is all about the variables

Why 11 blade, go with the stock 12.

to hazard a guess at Dougal's logic, Id guess its a compromise between 9 blade (greater flow, reduced efficiency) and stock (best efficiency, reduced flow). I'm just a monkey here :meh::meh:

Dougal's clay doll thinks 11 blade is the way to go, you both had reservations about 9 blade. Lets see what turns up ;)

The variables are basically the unknown with the 9 blade and whats known about the 12 blade on how they perform on a 4.2L diesel engine.

Well, there's one less variable in the world :hillbilly:
