Yes, that is the prudent way to go. I asked EC if I should install the update as my booting issue seems resolved and their answer was "no". I also asked Sergey the same question and he said it would be OK to do so. 🤷‍♂️ I'm going to take the "if not broke, don't fix" approach here but I'm also going to keep asking EC and Sergey questions. My understanding of the MCU file is that it allows the interface between the vehicle and the Android software. It allow the backup camera to come on when the unit isn't completely booted for example. I think if it bricked the unit there would be no way to put the old file back short of reformatting the hard drive and starting over.

That said, I thing people with a 2013 LC with the same PX6 would likely be OK with the file update, at least in terms of bricking potential and in my case, if it bricked, I'd have some recourse back to EC as they gave me the file.

Also, what I know about MCU files is from Google searches and questions I ask Sergey. I am in no way any kind of knowledgeable expert. I am just documenting here what I find and learn as I go. Here is a link (from Google search) to some info on updated MCU files.

So I did install the new MCU file. While my original boot up time issue was better, it was still glitchy. I updated the file 4 weeks ago and the cruiser has sat in parked for that time while I was out of the country. I started it up this morning and the new file seemed to work very well. It booted up in about 1 minute.

Glad to see your boot time is so much better. That chime that you got at about 3:35 or so happens on mine as well and I haven't been able to figure out what it is either. I would really like to find a way to disable it as it's rather annoying.

I believe so. It may be possible to still send video to the read DVD screen as there is an audio/video output harness. I'm eyeing the rear screen as a space to put something useful in.
Hello

Do you know how is the roof rear screen powered? Does the power to it comes from original navigation unit or the dvd player? Thanks

Sorry, I do t know. I have never, not even once, used my rear screen.

Yes, BUT there are RCA video and sound jacks if someone wanted to figure it out they could. I head unit can play videos from the front. I know with kids rear screens are useful. My kids are in their 30's so not a factor for me :)

I know my nephew and grandkids have Ipads and they just do their own thing in the back seat

Yes I am old

What I meant to say was that since you opened the whole dash and disconnected and connected everything for tesla screen, maybe you came across a connector which was for power of rear screen?

I am basically trying to achieve same result as you except I want to be able to have power coming to rear roof screen so that kids can plug in something using AV ports on the back side of center console. I don’t care about dvd player in the front which will be replaced by tesla screen. Do you think this is possible?

Ahh. Now that you mention it, there are some OEM plugs associated with the OEM unit that do not get used with the Tesla screen. It is possible that one of these powered the rear screen but I don’t know. I took a lot of pics that are in my install thread but I didn’t note what each of the unused plugs was for.

See post 5 here for pics.

I don't. I don't use the rear screen at all

I'm in the same boat. My OEM unit is stuck on the compass screen and I can't switch to view my map, etc. Time is always an hour off--as of a few months ago. Radio works fine, and we can play dvd's to the back for the kids. I'm looking to do something, and am leaning towards one of these Tesla screens. I am in discussions with a couple of vendors on alibaba, and they're having me take photos, etc, to configure and they are telling me that while the DVD drive itself won't be there, I will be able to play movies to the ceiling monitor through the unit. I'm not a tech guy...at all...but curiuos if that means via apps, etc.

Played with OBD Fusion today. My OBDII dongle is a Wi-Fi device which works but then the head unit doesn’t have an internet connection. I’m going go to a USB OBDII dongle. I think this will be pretty cool. Not sure if the data trends will run in the background or not though. I suspect not. Still, it will be pretty convenient to fire up the OBDFusion app on the read unit

Also, while playing with OBDFusion, I discovered that the head unit doesn’t play nice with my newly added VPN app. It would connect to my iPhone hot spot but couldn’t get to the internet. I had to kill VPN to get it to actually access the internet.

I have a Bluetooth OBD2 port version l, Veepack I think, and at least with my phone it works fine - internet still works over LTE and phone calls and music still work over BT. The key is that you don’t actually “pair” the adapter like a normal BT device, instead OBD Fusion handles communications.

On my phone it would be (and is) fine. The head unit needs my phone as a hot spot for internet. If the head unit had LTE on its own then it would be fine.

Guess I'm not understanding. The OBD2 BT adapter can connect to the head unit via BT. If you make the BT connection inside OBD Fusion then it doesn't prevent you from connecting via BT to your phone or other devices. (unless the Android version is somehow different than iOS).

The OBD2 dongle I have is Wi-Fi only, no BT. I didn’t want Bluetooth because I connect my phone to the head unit via BT. I didn’t think you could connect more than one device to the head unit with BT. I didn’t think to just connect a BT OBD2 device from in the Fusion app. Cool!

Yep, that was why I originally bought a Wifi-only dongle, and then I had the same annoying experience as you where my phone wouldn't connect to the internet while I was using it. It turns out BT solves this, believe it or not.

The trick with the BT OBD2 adapter is that you do NOT pair it with your device like a regular BT device. Instead after you plug it in, go into OBD Fusion and go to Settings->Communications and make the Communication Type at the top "Bluetooth LE".

I don't see the "vgate icar pro bluetooth 4.0" adapter on Amazon anymore but I see it on ebay. This is the exact one I bought:

I leave mine connected 24x7 as it'll power down a few minutes after the vehicle is shut off. In theory any Bluetooth LE 4.0 or 5.0 OBD2 adapter should work. Checking my Amazon history, I tried the Veepack but it wouldn't always power on. After returning it I read a few people who said the plastic housing was like 1/16" too long and if you trimmed it then it would fit correctly, otherwise it would sometimes disconnect or fail to make contact and power on. Eh whatever, mine works, the only "mod" I did was to put some electrical tape over the LEDs.
