Is there a button to turn on the wiper defroster?

Does it work with rear entertainment and allow them to display something different than the main screen (e.g. movies on rear screen and map on front screens?).
All the hvac buttons work. I havent tested that one specifically as it was close to 100 deg yesterday :)

None of these work with the rear entertainment system

Hey @Romer, are you still using the OEM cameras? I’d like to be able to get better resolution but I think that means running all new wires to the head unit. I currently have high res camera on the rear but I wired it to the OEM harness so I don’t get any better resolution.

I am still using the OEM Cameras.

I went through the setup and configuration today and spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting a Chrome browser issue. It works as a web page but wont save bookmarks or synch with my Google account. I couldnt login to Gaia as that logs in through the web page before logging the app in. Gmail etc worked.

I then loaded the Edge browser and everything works fine and was able to login to Gaia. I did send an email asking how to delete the Chrome app so I can reinstall it. It won't allow me to delete or update it.

I also updated my OBD Fusion based on inputs from @linuxgod . The hard one to figure out was which was the gear display and he pointed me to ABS/VSC/TRAC as “Status of the gear position / Fail or 1st or 2nd or 3rd…” He also let me know the status of the turque converter can be found under “Engine or Electronically Controller Transmission” as “status of the lock up” I haven't installed that one yet

I looked into the split screen using Magic Earth app for navigation and it seemed to work pretty well. I did go in an reduce the number of POIs like the P for parking

Pretty good GPS reception. I am still using the after market puck I installed for the older unit. Amazon.com: Proxicast Active/Passive GPS Antenna - Through Hole Screw Mount Puck Style with Right Angle SMA Connector on 20 inch Coax Lead - 28 dB LNA (ANT-190-003) : Electronics - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RW7R8KH?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1

I then tried using my Phone as a Mobile Hot spot

verified the Hot spot with Google Maps as well

I then switched to Android Auto which shuts off the Vhedia unit Music Player but will switch to the Phone player with no issues in a split screen. Mine always comes up with the split screen since that is how I closed it

I did not test the windshield lower heat strip for the wipers as it is hot here now. I never use that anyways.

Steering wheel buttons all work. There is no function for the speach button, I was hoping to map that to the Mute function. Will look into that more

So right now:
  • I have the full capabilities of Android Auto which allows me to use Google Maps through my phone or see and respond to texts as well as others apps like Gaia and Wazee
  • I can use my phone as a Hot spot to use Google maps from within the head unit or surf the internet
  • I can use Magic Earth for Navigation using on board maps without the internet or Android Auto
  • I have Gaia Topo maps that works on the Unit or via Android Auto since I have it installed on both devices using downloaded maps and tracks
  • All buttons and switchs work
  • HVAC controls work
  • I have key OBD data on a screen, split screen to share with Maps, Music or other apps
  • Split screen function works well and you choose the app. However, you can't split screen Android Auto with another app. You can split screen apps within Android Auto from your phone
  • There is a USB Port to load music files, etc
  • There is 128GB of memory vs the small amount I had before. Can't remember if it was 16GB or a little more
  • Music sounds pretty good to me although I haven't adjusted the settings and there are quite a few in the equalizer. Maybe on a long car ride
Open Issues:
  • Chrome doesn't work, but Microsoft Edge does so no loss of functionality, just want the apps to work
Observations:
  • I can see the screen better (Anti-glare), but it also shows fingerprints more.
  • Sometimes it take a bit to get to the home screen, but figureing it out. If I press the Apps button and then the back key it goes to the Home Screen. With 1 or no apps open, pressing the home buttom goes there. Sometimes with lots of stuff open the home button doesn't and you get there through the apps button. Likely my just getting use to how it works
  • You have to set the split screens you want every time you start the truck
Very happy with it and it is better than I thought it would be. I would make the upgrade again without question. One key item is I have multiple ways to navigate using my phone displayed on the Vhedia Unit or using local apps and they all work

Only caveat to all this Is I have very little road use on the unit, but I have not seen any behavior to make me concerned about long duration use.

I wish split screen was a permanent thing on these… really just functioning as two independent screens.

If my audio system ever dies I’m following in your footsteps. in the meantime I was trying to find one of those “roadtop” style screens that could sideload Android apps like OBD Fusion, but I’ve yet to locate one. Those are running Linux but only do CarPlay and Android auto, and while I’m not sure about Android auto the OBD Fusion functionality sucks in CarPlay.

My EC Offroad “Tesla” unit has always allowed split screen between two apps. It’s a little quirky in that I’ve never figured out how to get a specific app on the top or bottom. Nav apps seem to always go to the top half and everything else goes to the bottom.

I never got CarPlay to run reliably and just gave up. Don’t really need it as you can run the apps like OBF Fusion directly.

I was able to get some to work. I never tried OBD fusion on the previous Tesla unit. Those were not the primary reasons I wanted to upgrade if you go back to post 1, but I am very happy with how they are working on the new unit
