I lack historical context for this packaging, but I am struck by just how eleganly designed the single piece of cardboard packaging is for this wheel cylinder.

The corners accordion in to support the corners of the box.

And the box is JUST BIG ENOUGH to fit the wheel cylinder snugly corner to corner.

Such an elegant and well thought out design. Nothing wasted.
