can the grab handles really handle a 200+ person??

I thought about that after pic; used my climbing rope slings between both grab handles upfront and used the 3rd row seat belt anchors for rear. I'm 150lb and it was fine I needed more tension cause my butt rubbed the 2nd row seats folded down but it just was not for me.

After reading the posts, I experimented a bit with my camp cot. I think this setup will be perfect for my needs. I have 2 of the 3 cot legs down and the third one folded and lying on the middle row. Everything folds up and could be setup in just a few minutes. Though, since I'm heading up solo, I'll just set it up before I leave.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Keep it simple: forget the stands, plywood, REI pads, etc. This is what I did and my bed in the truck is practically more comfortable than the one in the house:

1. Get a thick memory foam mattress pad (I had an extra after upgrading mattresses, it was about 3-4 inches thick and originally from Costco (maybe ~US$120 iirc). Cut it in half lengthwise (assuming a queen or twin size). Or you could try folding it if you don't want to ruin it.
2. Place the pads in a duvet cover (another thing I found lying around in the house).
3. Fold down the second and third row seats as above.
4. Throw the doubled pads down over the backs of the seats.
5. Lie down.
6. Cover yourself with blankets, beach towels, a sleeping bag, whatever.
7. Enjoy a blissful night's sleep.
8. Wake up and write me a thank you letter.

One thickness won't be comfortable. Two will be. This whole setup will roll up to about 18 inches in diameter, which is bulky. Those gaps between the seats will not be an issue, and you will be shocked at how comfortably you sleep. The pads won't slide over each other or anything. It is remarkably comfortable, and just thinking about the last time I slept in it makes me want to go take a nap out there. As for condensation, crack the downwind windows (If it's really gusty and rainy, throw a tarp over yourself).

Do you have any pics of this setup?

I did this... a quick removable panel off the front of the drawers over the 60/40 seat. It just rests on the seat back.

I've been thinking about building a one side drawer / platform with a flip top to complete a sleep platform. Has anyone executed that specific idea?

I have a fridge in one side of the rear, it would be a sleeping area for one of my kids, I'm too tall to sleep inside the car with the second row seat installed .

Can you give us dimensions and how you built it/price/etc.? How difficult was it to do, and did you need any specialized tools or could you get the pieces cut custom at a place like Lowe's/Home Depot?

There is a whole write up in my signature link, however this is not an easy project. If you know a wood worker that likes a challenge then go for it. It likely wont be significantly less than the commercial units when complete but it'll be the way I want it. This is not a few boards cut down at Home Depot, it is pretty involved... that said, ANYONE can learn how to make stuff. Just gotta jump in, use what you have available, buy some tools and practice.

Hey @ozmannyy how'd the cot work out for a temporary sleeping platform? Is it a certain cot that fits? What specific cot do you have?

Anyone know if this would work in a 200? Looking for a quick 1 person temporary sleeping solution for next weekend:)
