Hello forum friends

New to the TechStream .... fun..... and hoping to get some help form those who have gone before me.

I've been working my way through the now legendary Techstream in 5 minutes thread for 2 days. now (which is both totally priceless and also the most inaccurately named thread i've ever read my way through). While there is a LOT of great info on there... it's also 66 pages long as of today and very unclear what is advice that is still relevant and what isn't.

Hoping to get some advice and hopefully create a new thread that others can follow along with because I think it's pretty clear that thread needs a reset.

I've successfully downloaded and set up the VM in the first post of that thread.

Am able to see the MiniVCI J2534 when running MVCI update tool (see screengrab) but when I try and run TS iI just get "unable to connect to VIM" error.

Any advice? Any help? I just want to figure out why my ABS light is coming up every now and then :)

If the bin edit above doesn't do it, I've run into that plenty and sometimes the solution I've found is extraordinarily crude - you unplug and plug back in (waiting for the windows chimes) over and over and over and over until you get both sets of chimes. On both my installations in windows there's some sort of trigger that isn't always activated in getting that cable to properly pass through to the VM.

Note that this was all on a PC, not a Mac.

I think I spotted your problem right away from the first screenshot. Note the third photo where you don't appear to have a checkmark at the bottom right of the desktop.

I'm also running mac and having no issues. You have to follow these steps it appears every time you restart the program.

Did you finally get it to work smoothly on your Mac?

In your linked post, you mention "Second, I opened up my virtual box, and loaded up Techstream. At the top, select "Setup" > "VIM Select" > XXXX (whatever model cable you have)". How do you do that? When launching the VM, if I launch Techstream, it will only show me the loading screen, and then the VIM error screen (as OP). So no way to go into the settings.

When you launch the virtual box and the Windows OS loads, launch "Techstream" from the dekstop.

You should see the techstream main menu as shown in the photo below. You would only be getting the "VIM Error" when you try clicking the "Connect to Vehicle" option without configuring properly.

I was able to figure out how to launch Techstream manually from a previous reply (C:\Program Files\Toyota Diagnostics\Toyota Diagnostics\Teachstream\bin > select main menu > fill in required dealer and dealer code (I put random 123) > cancel registration pop up > Setup > select VIM (cable).).
I can only see 2 options. Tried with both but still getting the same VIM issue. You can see that the cable is detected by the VM on the screenshot.
On another note, the XHorse Firmware update tool does not detects anything. Even if my cable is not from XHorse, should it be detected?
