I did the POR 15 prep wth the Marine Clean degreaser and the Zinc solution the they also recommend. Tomorrow I'll hit the inside lower section of these doors with the actual POR 15 paint. If it at least slows down the rust, I'll be happy.
I chickened out of trying to use the welding wand to add the CO2/Argon mix to the paint can. The truth is, it's so little paint in that pint can, the effort to preserve it is ?? But, anything to save a buck. My gas is just about empty, so I took it off the welder and used the gravity method to add the gas to the can. I'm pretty sure the gas is heavier than air. I put a piece of plastic wrap on the can and hammered the lid shut.
FWIW, I've had good luck storing POR15 by putting a plastic bag in between the lid and the can before closing it (I think this used to be in their instructions). Then, just be careful not to "tip" it so the plastic bag stays mostly dry of POR15. I've got a gallon sitting here that I've had for at least 2 years and I used it not too long ago. There was a dryed layer on top, but good POR underneath. HTH
Yes, you need to use plastic wrap . C02 is more dense than air , so yes it will work with the gravity method. Argon is the best overall if you have access. Just saving a little is a good idea for coating small parts that crop up later , the stuff does go a long way in coverage .

Yeah, put up some pics! Everyone here needs the visual thing, and you'll probably find one better that's already done. But thanks, I'm happy if anyone likes this project. I'm quite a ways from being through; but when I get there I'll see how I feel about my efforts. Hopefully I'll want to keep it a while.
I got this piece out and found the ends pretty rusted out, so I'll cut out the end parts and put in some new metal. The last pic shows that this piece is the upper back connection for the sides and secures the ambulance doors from the top.
Since I've got the POR 15, I'll probably treat the inside before I weld it up. After I cut out the ends, I sprayed it with the Marine Clean and then let it dry. Then I shot the the zinc based spray inside it. Tomorrow I'll figure out how to get the POR in there and still be able to weld the ends up.

It gets 22 mpg+ on the highway with a full load and almost gets 900 miles with out refueling. I'm not sure what mpg it will get with no load as every long trip I have

I'm not really thinking about selling it. First of all, I couldn't get near what I have in it. Second of all, at this rate it won't ever get finished. But in the end, the journey is the main point of it all!

I think it is unlikely it will be sold any time soon. Whenever I hear "I'll never sell it" that is the
sure sign it will be sold.
When one excepts that interests can change and things that are important now may not be in the future...
to me that is the sign of someone who is realistic and someone who is realistic will realize it will be hard
to find something better then what he already has.
