Tailgate window operator (1 Viewer)

Hey brains trust.
Taken delivery of my latest headache yesterday afternoon, heaps of work to get through and I’m looking forward to it.

I haven’t put a battery in yet, wondering if anyone knows how the rear window is operated? Any help would be appreciated

I think there is a switch on the dash and the key on the back door. Wiring diagram for rig would help.

Yes. There is also a relay in the circuit.

I was digging through the computer at work yesterday and came across the file with all the stuff from my article years ago In Toyota Trails about rear window operation and stuff on the FJ55. I'd be glad to send it in to Mud to have listed in the tech section but don't know how to go about it...

I know how mine works, yours looks different. Yours looks like an Aussie tailgate, some in Oz used a hand-crank. Take off the inner panel of the tailgate and see what's inside.

My 77 has a switch on the dash and there is a key (not the ignition key) for the tailgate that lowers the window.

Here's a US tailgate, the key switch runs an electric motor that usually moves the window up and down. Toggle switch on the dash does the same.
Your key is offset and you have a cover, or panel in the center of the door. Does that move? Is that hiding where the crank handle fits?

Here's the part's diagram for an Aussie mechanical window. Not sure what that crank handle looks like but guessing you can probably use a socket to operate it. Just have to open the cover and take a look. Apologies, I had to copy this diagram in two parts.

Thanks everyone, I’ll put a battery in and see what happens, once I’m finished cleaning the inside then I’ll pull the panel off and have a look at the operations. Thanks again

I would start by seeing if this cover opens. It appears to be hinged on the right. I assume it just flips open.

yep it opens up, cannot see a mechanical winder or motor setup, ill see what happens when I open pandoras box inside. assume it will be controlled by one of the three unaccounted for switches on the dash!

If you have a handcrank rear window, you're not going to have a motor, and switches won't help

It was definitely mechanical when it left the factory. Otherwise it would not have had that cover. Is there not an obvious male or female something that could connect to a handle?

ive got this handle in the box of spares, im assuming the window crank inside there has dropped down or is broken, ill add it to the list of thousands that need tote fixed! thanks again
