Tailgate latches

I don’t know the source of my tailgate - it was bought or fanned by a po.

The current closing mechanism is basically a sliding lock (I also have one on my basement door). It doesn’t work well- it rattles open when driving.

I have sourced fst latches and hooks. 2 questions before I start drilling holes—

Is there a better mechanism?
Is there a template or should I figure it out by looking at pics I’ve found in this forum?

That tailgate is half door welded together. Not really a tailgate. Those hinges look like some sort of modified ambulance door hinges.

Yes— someone suggested to me that it’s a set of barn doors welded together. The inside is nice. I’ll post a pic...

I don’t know who fabricated it - just came with it when I bought it.

If those are btb latches and catches you are going to want to fit everything up before you paint them.

Can’t remember where I got the latches- either from a mud member or eBay- the hooks are btb...
