Not seeing this in the thread but these guys are selling a kit similar to OPs carrier.

I bought mine about 4 weeks ago. Can't wait to get it in and installed.

I went with the restless offroad swing out. 100% bolt on and they make one for the GXs too.

That looks really nice. Too bad they won't ship it.

Well, it's encouraging that it states, "Not shipping yet." so at some point they are anticipating to ship.
They probably need time to steal some pallets form behind Walmart to ship them on.

Maybe they're still working out some minor fitment issues. The price includes installation, which is really nice.
I don't think they are ever going to ship it out. I messaged them like 1.5 years ago and they said the same thing.. coming soon. JW Offroad offers the same thing and I think they came out with the design first. I remember them squabbling on Instagram about stealing ideas a while back. Although, my experience with JW has not been ideal if you don't live in a super dry area.

Not a fan of JW. My buddy bought their roof rack for his GX470 and it completely rusted in just a year in the PNW.

Single swing, much like it is now. But a more robust mount and swivel post.
By double-shear I meant the swivel. Double-shear attaches to the top and bottom of the swivel and single only attaches at one or the other, like yours.

Example of a double-shear hinge:

I built one a couple years back but didn’t seem like there was much market interest and honestly the full length was kind of annoying with the big rear door as it wouldn’t clear my bike racks.

Since swapping a Prado rear door on, I can say that’s the best route to go

Where would one source a prado door?

How much do you think the Prado door conversion cost all-in?

I haven’t had the rear window tinted yet and I haven’t bought paint to paint the rear door interior trim yet so it’s not quite finalized at this point. Paint was also something I can’t really put a price on as it was done as a part of everything by a friend of a friend who hooked me up but the door alone shipped to a freight dock near me in Kansas was ~$1100. Probably could have saved on shipping had I known they would be shipping the plastic case/cover for the spare tire. Such a large box for something that I’ll never use. Rear glass with defrosters also added to the cost.

I’d probably say I’m around $1400 plus paint and install if you aren’t doing things yourself. Not exact but those are approximations based on rough prices I remember things being. I could dig back into my spreadsheet but I’d kind of rather not look at all I’ve spent on my GX lol

I love the idea of the Prado back door. I looked into it a bunch when i had my GX470s. -- sadly, those ones suffer from hinge/body cracking issues so its not a great mod for GX470s.

However, the 150 Prado rear door doesn't seem to suffer the same hinge/body crack issues.

But... one of the BEST upgrades Toyota/Lexus did on the 150/GX460 is the pop open rear window. Those 150 Prado doors with the tire-carrier built in do not have the pop open rear window option. I personally would be really sad to lose that. :(

Though I guess one could reason that you most likely aren't opening that rear window with ANY tire carrier (unless the tire hangs reeeeaaallly low or really far back) in the "closed" position, and if you have to open the tire carrier to pop/fully open the window, well, then its not much different than just opening the whole door at that point. :hmm:

Not true for the Dobinson's rear bumper. I can open the rear window with the tire carrier closed.

I was able to use the pop open window with my swing out on it, but ultimately rarely did as anything I’d put in there would be sliding all over the place on top of my platform. Only time I popped it open was when sleeping back there.
