Had I used the pic of myself wearing them...that would be a different story all together ;)

Well... I just responded to another thread, and refrained from using the word "Fawked"... so I hope you :princess:'s are happy.

I don't have kids yet, but my wife looks over my shoulder while I'm checking out the tech forum. From now on, I would appreciate no mention of prices for any of the mods I am planning.

Maybe any type of dollar amount could be added to the filter list.
LOL!!! :D

Maybe some code like prices aren't listed as like $546, but as like [54] or something.. :D Later that night wife speaking "Wow, $54 for that ARB cooler, that doesn't seem so bad, let's get two.." :D

If a child sees the f-word, will like, his face melt off or something?

Yeah, I don't have kids (yet--one on the way), and I'm new here, I'll try to keep it clean.

I regularly read threads with my wife, and I'd rather not have to wade through bad language to get to the good stuff :)....

Thanks for keeping it clean!

Yea, I had to stop taking my wife to the LSLC meetings because of the boozing, parking lot fighting and vulgarity. I also stopped taking her to Cruiser events like the Roundup because of all the nudity :D. I actually took my girlfriend :princess: instead. Actually, my wife is now my ex-wife and she got two of my Cruisers (Kaderabek stole the other one). My girlfriend, however, kinda likes the cussing here. She was puzzled about the panties though. :flipoff2:

But I agree we should try and keep it clean for kids sake.

I am with you Doug. The tone of this and the otherTech forums are what make IH8MUD superior to Pirate (IMOP)

I hope MY avatar is not offensive, it is just nature and one of my donkeys,,,,, something we see here everyday,, in one form or another,,,

I had to stop taking my GF to GSMTR the nudity, vulgarity, fist fights and all,,, gosh it was amazing how she was beating the crap out of everyone, naked!!!! youd think dd113 could handle a 5'7" 125# girl,, :D

heck shazam and fubar,, Ill try to keep it clean, I ususally use F----awk,,,

not trying to offend anyone, ,,, no kids here and no virgin ears either,,so we let it fly sometimes and forget about others kids,, sorry bout that,,

Having only been a Mud member for a little over a year and spending most of my time lurking and learning, my opinion may not count for much - but here goes..

For me it's not about my kid or my wife. It's ME who doesn't want to see all the cussing. Why? One reason many of us are drawn to Mud is the adult (read: grown-up) atmosphere and friendliness. Hang out on a Tacoma board, or a Jeep board, and you'll see immature stuff going on there you will hopefully never see here on Mud.

In my opinion, the cussing just invites immature behavior and demeans the whole board. Sure, in chat anything goes, but in tech I think we should try to keep it as mature as possible.

Yeah, I'm a big boy and I've heard it all before. I cuss when alone in the car, and have said things that would a hooker blush. So seeing the cuss words doesn't hurt or offend me personally... but I truly believe it harms the board.

I learned to speak English in the 3rd grade. Before i could put a real sentence together, i learned how to cuss in English. As i got into Middle School...cussing was rampant. High-school...even teachers cuss (not as extreme as the F word however). Now that i'm in college..hell, cussing is just part of everyday vocabulary. But i've come to realize....those who use excessive vulgar language in everyday talk....they sound incredibly stupid. so for the past two years...i've dramatically cut my use of fowl language--and i sound MUCH MORE INTELLIGENT!!

everyone else should think about this as well...instead of using fowl language to imply meanings...use the actual words that mean what you're trying to say!!

I don't think speaking like ducks/geese is much of a problem on here really, although I have heard it is rampant on pirate. Thanks for keeping it clean on here boys! :flipoff2:

I agree foul language seems to be more common these days. IMOP that does not make it right though.

I am not saying there is NEVER an appropriate time for a few well placed expletives... but a gratuitous use of them is just not necessary.

And why is it that we are willing to police ourselves here in "Tech" but in "Chat" (and in our everyday lives) it seems O.K.?

Do people view "chat" the same way as going "on spring break" or something.

Just my .02.....................gotta go wash my mouth out with soap. Yuk!

Chat is a place were people can loosen up and poke fun at other forum members. You will see it mostly from people who have been here a while to each other. It's meant to be in good fun. If you have been to Pirate, you would see that our Chat here is mild compared to their Tech and like a G Movie compared to their Chat.

In this forum, you will se a dignified intelligent and helpful Junk. In Chat, you will see a foul mouthed, insulant and sometimes down right nasty Junk.

Having Chat, keeps it out of Tech. Some people don't evern visit Chat for that reason.

It's not something that wil make everyone happy, but its a compromise that make these Tech forums the best anywhere.

I agree in that this forum is superior to Pirate from a maturity level. I know of noone whom is offended by clean language. The same can't be said for cussing. Sad to think of a mechanic who knows Land Cruisers backwards and forwards coming across this forum and being offended to the point of leaving without contributing their knowledge. Not a :princess: here. The wrench slips on a cold day.... I could embarrass a sailor then. As far as Avatars go, I enjoy most of them. I recognize them faster than the user names. I hate to lose all of them because a few are having a vulgarity contest. (Clothing and donkeys don't count)

My .02

Thanks for the input and kind words. I do appreciate your efforts in keeping it clean here in Tech. I think it's a good informal policy to continue here on MUD - one that attracts and keeps quality people who are less likely to leave to find another board.

Thank you,

DougM

+1 for a mature board.

agreed, and I would also suggest fewer off-color jokes and hijacks in Tech.
And yes I have been guilty once or twice ( :D ) so will attempt to refrain in the future...
