Ahhh.. That's before the fire........:D

What is it like to camp on the beach?
Expect sunny skies, warm temperatures and strong winds blowing sand into any crevice you have on your body, but remember camping on the beach is exposed and primitive. Savvy campers will bring windscreens, camp tables, tequila and kegs of craft beer.

I fixed it

Ok, ok, even though I sold the 80 I'm comin'! Hope my taco doesn't get stuck...

Good lookin' mob Jim. ...Also considering the 5K on Saturday, but a lot depends on Friday at Sand Chef!

Remember it's only a run/walk on the beach, piece of cake.

I am thinking of a special category for some of my "special" friends. It would be the "40-40-5K".

Basically, at the sound of the starting gun you must drink a 40 oz. beer (Mickey's beer bong is optional). You must finish the 40oz before starting the run down the beach. At the mid point, stop and finish another 40 oz. before continuing back to the finish line where the winner receives........ another 40oz.

Again, this would be a special category aimed at only the toughest, mas macho hombres many of whom may have stayed up the entire night before. Other grudge/challenge matches welcome.

NOTE: The above distractions are intended to divert attention from the spouses and kids which will be kicking butt.

:D

Should we all bring some firewood or is there plenty of drift wood laying around?

Dan,

I KNOW you know what FIREWOOD is. :)

We have a local source for the community bonfire. We try to get a couple trucks and trailers and a few extra hands to help haul it in on Friday (it's several miles away in SLO).

While the community fire is open to everyone there will be quite a few smaller fires throughout the "Cruiser City". For those, it's bring your own wood.

Lastly, no need for a saw, we just burn'em whole. :D (plus the sand is hard on chains, although I suspect you're pretty good at sharpening them). And it's hella fun watching you buck up a tree! ;)

It's too bad we don't have some old growth redwoods around here, we could have a little contest between you and Mudrak.

Looks like I am coming down Friday instead, One of my professors announced a midterm on Friday:mad:

Dylan

Don't you hate it when they do that...if it makes you feel any better I might have to come up on Sat. morning instead of friday b/c of school.

Just about one month guys....

I was up on Garcia Ridge today doing a little scouting. I get to the trail head, to find out that the Forest Service has reclassified it as a black diamond. It was definitely rougher than usual and really tore up and soft because of all the dry weather, but nothing a little finess and skinny pedal couldn't take care of in a stock 60...I did only go half way, however, and it gets rougher towards the end.

So, we're in for a bit more fun. There are lots of fun spots with rocks to crawl on, and they are more defined this year as they are getting more and more uncovered.....at least those who go for Garcia Ridge on their way to Pozo.

We'll be scouting Las Chices sometime next month, and maybe further down Garcia Ridge. So in summary, we're A-OK so far.

great, would be good to have (again?) a map available for distribution with some close by trails marked so people can find them easily... I think Garcia and Los Chiches are in the backcountry adventures book with all the coordinates etc.

2805363 Seconds..... and as of yesterday, we will probably be in my wifes new ride (see sig) :D instead of the Caird.... Sacrifices have to be made I guess....

Looks like the mob's about to hit 200.... Jim, I'm pretty sure that SNT would happen, even if you didn't do anything at this point, it's reached critical mass..... :D

Good point. I have all the old signs and bring them out each year. We'll add your new sign, more info on the FAQ page.

My two girls and I attended the 2nd SnT for the first time and we had a blast time eventhough it was downpouring almost the whole time.

However there are so many cruiser drivers from all over the western states that deserved to leave some marks. So the idea of signpost was born on my driveway just in time for 3rd SnT.

The 6" by 6' sign itself is simply a wood panel where it can be brought from any decent hardware store for $3 or less. As for lettering, the neon or bright paint works best on dark wood.

Here is a good sample that didn't panned out well when someone at Rubicon tried to make similair signpost at smaller scale thus unreadable even at 10 ft.

Cheers,

You're right Jay, and the sign post is awesome. It's held up really well so far but consider the weight and wind profile of the 6 inche x 6 foot signs as the number of signs increases . Yep, the whole sheebang blew over last year. Not to worry, I've got some ideas on beefing it up before it goes up this year.

Andy, thanks for the trail report on Garcia Ridge. Sounds better than when they graded it a few years ago.

J-Rod, so you're saying I'm obsolete? Well, I already knew that. :D

But you're right about SNT taking on it's own life. It couldn't happen without everyone coming out. Plus there are so many people pitching in to do wherever is needed. We're lucky there are so many happy campers and good natured folks in the Land Cruiser community.

No whiners! :grinpimp:

BTW, you are doing and excellent job as the Chief Executive of the Office of Surf N Turf Countdown Operations. :D

P.S. I hope Rachael will let you drive for a few minutes.

See You soon!

Jim,

How's that?

Am I getting too overboard? meh...

Cheers,
