I was cruisin down the freeway yesterday on my way to the beach when I decided to open (not tilt) my sunroof. It was a beautiful day and I wanted to absorb the great cali weather.

Everything was great until I went to close it. I noticed the fabric cover for the sunroof was in front of the sunroof glass, instead of behind it. So when I go to close it, the cover closes first and will not allow the glass to close completely. The motor functions fine, I just need to get the cover back to where it was.

I've tried pushing, pulling. Tried it with the sunroof in different positions along the track. Tried bending the cover inward while pushing it open. Nothing worked. Any suggestions?

Mark, you aren't going to want to hear what i have to say....but....

I had the same thing happen to me, and basically the sunroof had jumped off track. The only way to fix it is to lower the entire headliner, then re-align the sunroof on track, put the headliner back in and done.

My problem was that i didn't have a garage, or the time to do it and a rain storm was heading in. So i drove to the dealership. They charged me $200 to do the job.

ouch. so it's the glass that's out of place?

What caused this? Opening the sunroof with the cover closed while going 65mph?

Frankly, I think $200 is a steal for that job. Lowering the headliner is a pain in the ass, and it's fragile, to boot.

I am not a big fan of the dealerships, but that's a fair price.

Does the FSM have good directions on removing the headliner? Don't recall seeing anything on it.

You got away clean for $200. That headliner is a PITA, and I bet many stealerships would say "something happened to the headliner and it can't be reinstalled.... but we can sell you a new one"...

considering the pickle i was in, i paid gladly!

Then i had a problem, as i started to leave i decided to look around the rig, they lost two of my grab handles. So i walked back in and told them they had lost them. THey swore they werne't there when they took the truck in and then said they would sell me two new ones at $35 each! I said GFY!

Did you get free grab handles?

I would have...

While you are in there be sure to check the clamps on the hoses for the drain pan under the sunroof. One of my hoses was almost off of the drain nipple.
My headliner was dropped for a rear cargo light install. It is an EZ job just time consuming. I used clamps to hold the headliner in place lightly and had a chair for back-up to catch the headliner in case the clamps slipped or I slipped.

how long did this take you or anybody else?

I'm considering doing it myself so I can do a number of other things as well - check the drains, plug the rack holes and pull the nutserts, install the cargo light and a 2m antenna on the roof.

funny this was at the top of posts when I checked the 80 section today.
checked in to look for sunroof problems. my sunroof will not tilt up on one side and when closing, will not go flush on same side... I was afraid that I might have to drop the headliner. shoot.

eta: after searching a bit, looks like I have a broken drive rail. double shoot.
