Stroking or SC'ing a 1fz-fe??

Should have mentioned it....I'm in TN... I was talking to ACC in Atlanta about swapping a 3B in my 40 and doing some other stuff but the wife put the brakes on that project until I get the 97 running tip-top for her. You know she is the one driving it and complains about power so I'll oblige and get it built for her before doing the 40.

I haven't really asked ACC but I guess I just assumed they were less engine rebuilding and more paint body etc.

I would recommend ACC without a doubt for this build. These trucks are their passion, and they do everything. While I interned there I did a lot of work on engines besides the usually lifts and bumpers. Brian knows the 1FZ like the back of his hand. They've also done quite a few superchargers there. When I left for school there was a supercharged 1FZ in the shop getting some love.

Brian or Mike will treat you right at ACC. Talk to them you'll be glad you did.

Knowledge and skills is what they bring in on every project. Perfection and a knack for details has always shown in their work. Check their Facebook page for projects they have done.

I noticed some builds that also mention powder pig / Robbie. Would anyone have recommendations for him. Everything I've read says he's a super mechanic for a task like this.

Robbie would be my first choice. This is right up his alley. He has forgotten more about the 1fe and 1 FZE engine than most supper mechanics know about them.

Robbie is so good guys fly him in just to work on there rig. That should say it all.

It all comes down to budget.

Have you considered selling the 80 and using the ~$6,000 plus the ~$11,000 for the engine work and buying a 100 with a 4.7?

Not trying to convince you to do this, just wondering if you've considered it and what made you decide on the 80 vs a 100.

My decision to build the 80 shakes down as follows.

1. FZJ 80= modern classic and to me the styling is more to my taste than the 100. The wife may like a 100 better and that may be an option down the road for her and I keep the 80. :grinpimp:

2. If I spend even $15k to build the truck up how I want. I'm in it for $21-22k. For that kind of money I'd be looking at a 100 pushing AT LEAST 80 k miles possibly more depending on other factors. Then potentially I'd have a V8 engine with higher mileage and facing the possibility of HG issues in a matter of 3-4 years. Compared to having a brand new re-built zero mile engine from someone that really knows how to rebuild one.

3. I think the I-6 is a better engine than the V8, although with less power, and would prefer to start with a fresh I-6 than a tired V8.

4. mpg while not really a factor for me at this point would be similar anyway between a built SC I-6 and stock V8.

I emailed Robbie and think I may go that route sometime in February when he's back in CO and complete with his current build. I think at least with the engine stuff I'll go with Robbie and let ACC work with me on some of the other stuff I need done. It's not that I don't trust them or think they're not competent. I just feel that if I'm going to spend $10k or whatever to rebuild this engine I want THE BEST, and from what I've read and what you guys on here are saying Robbie is THE BEST for this task.

Thank you all for the input and as things progress I'll try to post up some pics of Robbie's work.

Another vote for going the 4.6 plus TRD supercharger route. Also another vote for Robbie - incredible knowledge and experience with these engines and you won't find a nicer guy. Here's mine

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMN! More engine porn!

That would be exactly what I would want mine to be with the only exception being a pewter valve cover.

Very nice. What type of power are you getting now and what type of experience did you have with the builder?

Don't bother with the stroker kit, you will gain very little. Your best bet is a freshened up rebuild of the engine + supercharger or turbocharger.

With a 2.8" pulley on the SC, we estimated maybe 320 hp/400 ft-lbs, but that's just a guess. Nothing but good things to say about Robbie, l would recommend him without question. You can PM me if you want more info, don't want to clutter up this thread.
