Screw all this I would get my truck then load my s*** up and take it all home and deal with this later at my own residents. Steal my own truck are you out of your mind not talking to you just saying to the cops

absolutely Get your truck and wait for the COPS on the gear since it's in a camp... drive it straight to the police station
Don't give it a chance to lose it

Make sure you get the police to complete and close the file on it, you will need that in the event you need to make an insurance claim for any damages and items NOT recovered that you want to claim.

Get the paperwork done right, i's dotted and T's crossed...

EDIT - Get and keep the police file # for insurance purposes

Get a burner phone and call in a shooting to the area, that will get them there faster (2-3 hours tops :) ). Man, I'm so glad I moved out of Portland. Thankfully I had a garage when I lived there, but the amount of 60 series that get stolen there is simply insane! The homeless camps in Spokane have gotten far worse over the last 3 years, but I was shocked how bad Portland has gotten when I was strolling through part of downtown a couple months ago.

Glad this was a happy ending!!!

a little roughed up. but even got our stuff back.

portland police helped out by keeping. the zombies at bay while i disassembled the rack and associated parts to haul it home.

huge thanks to @Paco - he pulled up right when we needed and helped get the larger parts hauled out of the homeless camp

also a shout out to @MiyamotoMusashi - he offered to come by and help - right when i was talking to portland police and they said "don't engage the zombies"

thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement - and to @Paco and @MiyamotoMusashi for being local support.

she's home.
there's sticky black resin on the center console.
they EFFED up the roof taking the rack off.

I'm mildly pleased that they appear to have given up and just took the cross bars off as a whole unit with the thule box / kuat basket all intact...cuz it was too hard to part out. (it would have been very heavy as a whole unit). Sadly - they royally EFFED up all that new paint...so back to the paint shop she'll go.

they ransacked the inside - but nothing broken.

the fly rods and my pontoon boat parts were still in the thule box.

i think the best part of the whole saga is that this steelhead fly - was hanging on off the sun visor

my wife comments on it every time we're in the cruiser that she wants that for an earring. she spotted that fly on the ground right near New Seasons on Division - which gave us a bread crumb trail to start in a direction.

since we were waiting for a call from PoPolice to meet us at the truck - we figured we'd just drive around looking for our stuff...and sure enough that's how we found the cargo box and all the other gear. that fly I tied was the shred of evidence we needed to go in a direction....and bingo!!!

kill switch going in just as soon as I sanitize the poor girl....

that's awesome @Paul DiNapoli , now the next news i'd love to see/hear is that homeless camps in portland have been razed n finished off with pounded earth. oh n feed the f%#king survivors to the dogs!!!!!
so have you seen a jeweler yet about a custom ear ring for your :princess:?

Paul did you discuss the rash of old Cruiser thefts in Portland with the police?.....they have any insight as to why these old rigs get targeted by the tweeker sh!tbags.

Maybe the Portland tweeker sh!tbags are so hipster they'll only be seen thieving vintage, purpose built vehicles. Thieves with good taste kinda thing??

i don’t know - it’s so hard to say.

none of these s***bags looked like hipsters if i’m honest.

the door locks are all intact and functional. the ignition cylinder was not harmed.

so the worn key theory holds up. they likely put any old worn toyota key in and drove off.

they don’t give 2 sharts about vintage style. just ease of access i guess?

they didn’t bother to break into to thule cargo box. it held 2 expensive fly rods - a pfd- pontoon boat parts. / oars / camping gear. that is high value to a homeless camp.

there was an early 2000s toyota sienna van right there at the scene. no rear plate. i’m guessing they used that to haul the heavy roof rack kit to this camp.

this guy could barely walk. and said hello all humble and friendly like.

this guy moved like he had his wits about him and scurried off quickly with a bike as soon as the fuzz arrived

that’s our stuff on the ground under the white tarp

i saw the thule box just barely out of the corner as we were turning around to leave.

this guy looked alert and hard

photos are reversed since taken from side view mirrors from inside subaru so as not to make too much fuss and cause them to scurry or quick move our gear deeper into their hellhole

I lived off division and 22nd (I think) for the summer of 05. I met a few people there who were already talking about communist revolution... I left promptly. I’m in Colorado now and I’m starting to see this same crap out here. Frustrating times. I’m very glad to see you got your truck back as predicted. I whole heartedly support everyone evacuating the area so we can drop a couple tons of flea bombs on the city.

they also left a good sized nugget of heroin and a meth pipe - which has me thinking if the same dudes that stole it - are the same dudes that left it...they might know where to return to find their drugs...which means i'm sleeping in the cruiser tonight waiting for them.

This is a little bit alarming. I think you figured out why cruisers are getting snagged so frequently. There’re probably a bunch of people who know that trick works on our trucks. I know Toyota recently stopped making some of the locking mechanisms for our doors. Maybe it’s time to figure out an update to keep these things more secure... but I’m no locksmith..

This reminds me.. I used to work in a pawn shop in Atlanta. We had a catalogue where we could order things like car speakers and flashlights and things like that. My boss bought a couple of window jimmy’s because we would have customers lock their keys in the car every so often. Seemed reasonable at the time. But our pawn detective came in and asked us to stop selling them because people were using them to break into cars like crazy in the hood where this shop was. They said that they had 150 break in over the course of a week! Needless to say my boss was quite embarrassed... lol

Yikes. That's too easy. They probably used the same key to start it but did a rakeing attack on it. Checkout the Lock Picking Lawyer on youtube. He shows how effortless and easy locks can be to open... or he makes it look super easy. Im gonna start a new thread on anti theft ideas Anti-Theft Solutions and Brainstorming - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/anti-theft-solutions-and-brainstorming.1262199/
