I am closing in on the part of my restomod that requires me to get my wheels and tires lined up and purchased. I really want some BFG KM2 MT on a stock OEM steely with the hubcap. Does anyone have any pictures of this combo? Will this work with the old school steel wheels? I have disc brakes all the way around, will this affect my backspacing clearance? I really like this look and want it to work.

Thanks,
Nick

I'm in the same situation and I've read through all of the threads. I think that the bottom line is that if you have at least a 2" lift you can easily fit a 33x9.5 or 10.5 on the stock oem steely. Everyone does it. That's the good news......

The bad news is that the km2's are on national backorder and you can't get them anywhere reasonable. (There are a few around for really high prices.) You may also find that some tire installers will refuse to install that wide a tire on the stock wheel. Keep looking and you'll find someone who will do it. It appears to be one of the most common combos out there for this vehicle.

so now the question... where do you get the steelies and hub caps from? are they something you would have to get used and recondition? cause im really feelin the same look on my 42.

I believe the steelies and hub caps are available from cdan at American Toyota

Yep. New steel wheels and hubcaps are still available from Toyota.

I've seen people run 34x10.5 on stock wheels (see pic - he has a 4" lift), not sure if there are any 35" tire sizes that will be narrow enough to go on the stock wheels...

I talked with my local Toyota dealer and they said they can order the caps and have them within 2 days. Prices where cheap, about $17 / hub cap. As far as the wheels, I am going to see what I can do to get 35 BFG MT's to fit. If they don't then I may have to go w/ another wheel but try and fab up tabs to make the hubcaps fit on another set / brand of steelies. I really want the stock look, its killer!

just a thought...

Nicholas, have you done a search on here about getting the stock wheels widened? I'm pretty sure I've read about guys doing it... Just in case they won't mount the tires....:hhmm:

oh wow way cheaper than i expected!! i know we were talkin about em not long ago.

on the tires fitting the wheels a 12.5 being that tall should be ok as it will give more length to narrow down to the skinnier wheel (i know i ran 33x12.50 on the stock steelies on my 60 for a while with no isses or complaints., however getting the wheels widened shouldnt be a big deal either tho being just a simple steel wheel.

The BFG KM2 MT in a 35x12.50R15 are too big for the stock steel wheels. I would not recommend going with anything wider than 10.5 on those rims. The closest size you could probably run in a KM2 would be a 33x10.50R15.

I'm running the SS LTB 34x10.50R15 in the pic above, but the SS are very narrow and have very stiff sidewalls, which makes it ok on the narrow stock steel rim.

I think the advice about getting some wheels widened would be the best option if you want to run hubcaps with a 35. Good luck with your project.

Get 4 or 5 stock wheels from Toyota ($80ish each) or find 4/5 used ones.

DO NOT GET DRUM WHEELS FOR WIDENING

Ship them to Stockton Wheel in California and have them widened to 8".

I have OE wheels widened to 7" w/ 35 x 12.50 BFG KMs and they are awesome...just wish they were 8"

How much did it cost you to have them widened? When they are widened, do I have to run tubes? Do you have any pics of yours w/ the 35's on the OE wheels?

Thanks,
Nick

PS - How did those seats work out?

I ran across threads about widening the stock OE wheels when I was looking to see if 35's fit. Now I'll go back and look a little closer.

I went by Discount Tire this afternoon and they said it would be probably 45 days or more before I could get those tires due to the national backorder. That is fine, I really don't need them anytime soon. That will give me time to get my wheel situation in order. I'll probably end up widening them as I REALLY like the stock look.

I think your right, widening seems to be the best route for me.
