Does anyone know if a 79 FJ40 carb will fit in a 78 FJ40
any modification I will need to do ??
Righ now I am running a Holley 600cfm way to large for the cruiser.. performance is great but fuel aconomy sucks
also it is always running too rich so I found a 79 Toyota carb in good shape just wondering if it will fit without ecessive mods

not 2 highjack, but since it kinda relates...how bad is the lack of a return-line?
Currently playing w/2F carb without a return-line.
thanks

The 79 is better than a holley, but it lacks the fuel return of the 78-earlier carbs.
One nice thing is the 79 also lacks an EGR inlet.

Thanks Jim just the right guy:)
the return line it's ok since the holley already is set up without one
the holley has a fuel line in and that's it, 2 ports on the spacer/adapter wich I guess is/was for the EGR, right now they are plugged.

This photo is for the 79 carb

I don't think it's a 79 from what I understand, any idea?

The ebay image is a 1978 carb.

That's what I though it has a return fuel line...
Well for $75 not bad if I can make it work on my 78

what would happen if I don't use the return line ?? stinky stuff ?:)
how about plugging the return line back into the in fuel line with a T ?

what's that wire sticking out for ? the choke ???

I guess I will need a manual to figure it all out I have the Haynes but I don't think is detailed enough

anyway thanks for all your help

The return fitting can be removed at the carb, and a short fine-thread metric bolt can be used to plug it. Carb will run with no return, but hot starts and hot idle quality will not be as good.
