I love the fact that this thread gets all kinds of goodies.....
Nice to have a budget to work with huh Stevo?

Im gunna go clean out the change in my ashtray :hillbilly:and pick myself up some beer and smokes and head down to the shop and stare at what needs to be done to my cruisers.

Yeah, it was nice.

While going to college, I worked an average of about 14 hours a day doing freelance work during the entire summer, Just to pay for college.

Once I graduated, I cut the average time down to 10, I figured I would make a nice amount to cushion me in case I couldn't get a job.
Needless to say I had a nice amount to work with, not so much any more.

Its funny you said you were going to scrounge for change, today after work I'm gonna go cash in my change jar in my room.

I'm going to need to save up this summer for the diesel swap.

Unless someone out there wants to donate a NV4500HD and all the other fixings I will need to buy.:D

I will keep my eye out for one out here Stevo.....
Being so close to Moab I see some great deals on many crawler projects that never make the finish line.....
in fact, there is a fj40 factory soft top in pieces out here and all the body is rust free...for $1500 It is all there just in parts.
Crap like this all the time!!!
I'll keep my eyes out for a deal for ya..

I'm keeping an eye out on craigslist. If I managed to get a running and driving first gen cummins for $1000, I should be able to find a nice nv4500 for a lot less and rebuild it.

Inputs? Is that like specifications?

If so the 12 valve is 5.9 liters, 6 cylinders, mechanically injected, turboed, and intercooled.

Stock it has 160hp 400ft-lbs
With the pump turned up and a new fuel pin, mine will be in the range of 250-300hp and 550-650ft-lbs

Some better pictures of the tires:

Sweet wheels look good! I would love some new wheels and tires :D

thanks... specs sounds good, i was thinking more of how is the engine to work with, i guess parts and upgrades are very available. (?) Damn good looking tires!

Yes parts and performance parts are much more plentiful for the cummins than any of the toyota diesels in the US. There is also quite a bit more power potential too. The engines are pretty easy to work on but having a manual is always a good idea.

Boots summed it up nicely, there are at least 4 places I can go for parts within 20 miles of my house, and in terms of power potential, if I wanted to I could get like 400hp out of the pump. But thats way more than I need.

Just turning up the pump, I'll be up to around 230-250hp which is fine for me.

Slow season has officially started :D :D :D

Body swap is starting tomorrow along with the documentation.

For anyone that has done it any pointers?

Good luck man, make sure to have plenty of these around:beer:

What do you need to know? If you have a lift then that is the best pointer I would have given you anyway:lol:

Managed to get a bunch labeled, photographed, and listed today:)

Emissions were the worst, then I did the electrical, brakes, and coolant lines.

For the electrical system, I removed connections to the starter and alternator, the temp sensor, and then the stuff I needed to remove from my OBA setup. Is there anything I missed in terms of electrical connections from the body to the frame or engine?

I also picked up one of these :D
It has some ugly trussing which I'll take care of but not too bad for just $150
The main thing was it had the gears I wanted in it, 4.10's

Reverse gear sensor, 4wd sensor, t-case ground. Are you taking the front clip off? Then you need to do the headlights, horn and turn signals. That's all I've got for now.

Nice, thanks for those.

I think I am going to go for lifting the body off first then pulling the engine so I am going to be leaving the front clip on.

Also I had a question about the brakes, I really only need to disconnect them where they attach to the junction box on the frame right?

Exactly, the union in the engine bay. Also make sure to remove the fuel lines from the front ( by the brake union up ) as well as at the tank. If you have any fuel in the tank, make sure to be ready to plug the lines as you take them apart. I used some vacuum caps turned around and held in with the stock clamps.

Also, if you're leaving the motor in, make sure to either remove the fan shroud or remove the fan / clutch assembly. That will give you the room you need to get it out.

Make sure not to forget the rear heater lines as well!

Well sorry about the lack of updates. Truthfully I haven't had much time to work on it.

However tonight I managed to get the rest of the systems removed. The only thing holding the body down are the mounting bolts to the frame.

Tomorrow I hope to pull the body and begin cleanup.
