Maybe you’re right on the color change over time. The leather feels completely different (in a good way). So does the “wood”. Here’s the comparison. Look how trashed the old wheel is…I also don’t use lotion or sanitizer regularly.

Yep. The leather is the same color in the new one. Just don't have that patina yet. Same for the wood. Your old one looks like a perfect example of sanitizer/lotion use, seeing how much it is "chewed". If you are the only owner and never used any, I would say you got a really bad batch. The bronze stitching looks great with the terra interior.

Did the swap and love the new steering wheel. Everything works perfectly with the controls and it drives straight. The only thing I can't figure out is now I don't get a reading when my wheels are turned on the dash like you normally do so you know how far your wheels are turned. Anyone have any info on this? I don't want to take the whole thing apart yet until I know the fix

The 45100-60760-C3 is the replacement wheel that comes with the fake wood and the heater (what was sold stock in the States)

The one in the original post (45100-60A91-C0) is the heated wheel, but it’a fully leather wrapped (no wood)

Edit: Oh wait - it looks like the (45100-60A91-C0) is discontinued. You actually found the replacement version which is now (45100-60A90-C0). Thanks for doing that.

It says black and grey, but it’s black leather with grey stitching. :)
Just ordered and received the A91 wheel via IMPEX. So there’s still some out there

So I have read “only” 2 people that replaced their old OEM steering wheel with the newer HE Steering wheel?
I am not sure if the HE wheel will fit my 2017 with Terra and heated wheel.
Anyone else that can confirm?

I think I am one of those two people and if so I’m not “anyone else.” But that’s what I did — used the HE wheel on my ‘17.

The only difference between the HE and the regular (stock wood) wheel is bronze stitching is on the HE.

The problem with the HE wheel is it only comes with the wood and you can’t get it fully leather wrapped. Though, if you like the wood, then the HE route makes sense because the bronze stitching looks better than black (imo).

Is the leather on the HE wheel the same soft, thin leather as stock, that gets cuts and chips as it ages? Or the thicker, sturdier leather that comes on the @all leather” wheel?

I still love the “all leather” replacement steering wheel on my 2016. So much more durable than stock.

When I had my 2021 HE, the leather felt like the thin stock leather which I replaced on my 2016.

Though, the jury is still out if they slightly modified the thin stock 2018+ plus wood wheels to handle more wear and tear. We do know the 2016-2017 wheels are garbage across the board.

The leather on my replacement HE wheel feels thicker and sturdier than the leather on my OEM '17 wheel. But it's hard to tell if that's because it's brand new and hasn't been subjected to 7-8 years of constant wear, or if it's entirely different. Either way, it's a welcome change.

I put a recondition Steering wheel up for sale in the classifieds.

Includes the heater.

I ordered and received the A91 wheel on the recent sale ($604 from Serra). Just called up the local dealer to get it installed and they want $330...an hour to put it on and an hour for an alignment. I questioned the alignment and he more or less told me to pound sand if I didn't like it.

Thoughts on the fairness of the price and the need for alignment?

Thanks

Should be no need for an alignment since it’s not impacting the actual steering linkages if you put it back on straight. In fact, if the steering was out of whack, they did not put the wheel back on the right spline, and no alignment will fix that.

The job is really an easy job, and should take no more than an hour by an amateur. Probably 30 minutes by an experienced mechanic.

Agree… mostly. When I replaced my steering wheel, I wasn’t able to get the splines perfectly aligned, so I needed to have the zero-point reset at an alignment shop. Big fan of lifetime alignment plans for use cases like this.

That said, it’s surprisingly easy to do the actual replacement. I wouldn’t even consider paying $330 to have someone do it.

Given how easy it is to replace the steering wheel, I would have a hard time paying for labor. There are a few instructional videos on YT that walk you through the removal and installation.

Hi all

I’ve acquired a US model steering wheel which has heating.

I’ve now worked out I need a new clock spring which accommodates heating.

Can one of you North American guys help me out with the US clock spring part number which facilitates heating?

Many thanks
