1981 FJ45 manual steering...
Just a quick question about my steering box. I had way too much play in the steering and leaking, so decided to take out the box. It needed it! Seals were bad and gasket was basically gone. Cleaned it up the best I could, replaced seals and gasket. Putting back together, should the teeth line up basically in the middle of each other? Or is there some other trick?

My manual is 75 - 80. Not sure if there's a difference..

I found that turning the adjuster 1/4 turn at a time, you can easily assess the slack in the steering wheel until it is acceptable. The standard play is about 10cm from memory so don't over tighten it hoping for perfection.

Also.. while you have the box open, fill it with grease and forget about oil - it will never leak and will easily outlast you.
