After Steens sweet score on that 911 my envy and desire for speed has had me searching hard for a highend sports car replacement for the completely reliable yet horribly mundane Saturn I DD........ I have long loved the BMW 2002 from the early 70's they are essentially to BMW what the FJ40 was to Toyota. But recently my inclination has turned to someting realatively more modern and luxurious; the series two M5 1990-1993 the last of the handbuilt M cars. At the time they were considered the ultimate sedan.

so anyways one finally caught my eye..... its down in Flordia

so have I lost my mind??? plans are to go check it out the end of Jan. I am very interested to here opinions and any knowledge on these rare beasts

its a 1991 BMW M5 350hp from an inline 6

I know where a Bavaria is. Probably sell it cheap. Lol.

You are crazy.

Wait till after the honeymoon and see how much money you have then.

And in the mean time help Chuck get my old JGC tuned up, take the rear seats out and spare tire and the trailer hitch and buy some 105 octane.

It will run. It will run hard. I used to be able to boil the tires for 30ft when it was running right.

A friend of mine called today and said he bought a new Z07. Cannot wait to get a spin.

The thread title says it all... You have definitely lost your mind.

But, I think you'll be able to find it in Florida! :grinpimp:

There has to be a Mud equivalent for BMW's. There are a bunch for Porsche.

Where in Fla? Roadtrip?

yes I am crazy :D....... but I figure bimmers have to be cheaper than cruisers

I'd be interested in seeing that Bavaria; gotta love vintage BMW.. although I think if I went old school I'd just get a 2002

That's pretty funny. For the price of an engine you could buy a couple cruisers.

Just looked at the pics... very nice! and those receipts and the guy's obvious obsession look to be good signs.

road trip if it doesn't sell before Jan. 26th :D it is in Melbourne so about 8+ from here, not quite up to your standards though Steen :grinpimp:

and there are a few good M5 boards out there and I have been frequenting them since this fall; have found alot of good info...... and the basic synopsis is they are fantastic vehicles but costly to mantain of course :crybaby:

so we'll see, this one is the first one I have seen for sale that really caught my eye and I have gotten Mary E to agree to go check it out with me and not divorce me if I get it :D

If I do get it Steen we'll have to head to the Dragons Tail at Deals gap!!! Dan and his lancer can come as well

yeah that is what really has sold me on this one; as you know the history is everything with these things. I have been talking with the guy and he knows his stuff and isn't just some kid with a suped bimmer that thinks that drifiting is the latest and greatest sport

You'll have to get it shipped from Melbourne to Cali! 8 hours.... phhffff you'll just be getting into 5th gear!

They all talk about maintenance costs being high, but they also are pretty bullet proof. Get a good one and they'll run a long time. You can do the work (unlike me) so half the costs are gone right there! Don't let that scare you too much.

Dragon's tail is a definite!

I knew the minute I read the title of the thread that something was wrong, JP and thinking those two things dont go together or dont work right when they do. Why dont you try paying for the cruisers, the wedding, the house, the new garage you say your building, the wood floors, etc, etc and then worry about a car. See you Sat, have my money. :flipoff2:

Ummmm...it doesn't feel quite right saying this, but Richard's post was logical and backed by sound logic...

What are the stats on that thing JP? 0-60? 1/4 mile?

I, for one, will encourage JP to at least come down and look at it. Even if you don't buy it, you and Mary Ellen have a free place to stay here in WPB (About 2 hours south of Melbourne). I promise you some fishing if you decide to come down. Sputnik 40 will be in charge of beverages.

Capt........ this might just work out!!! It'd be good to catch up with you flordia boys; If I come down I most likely am going to buy it and will need a few stiff drinks :D

Leave it to Capt. Jim to change the dynamics of the whole enchilada!! :D

Some fishing for sails to accompany a new car search makes sense, no matter the details!!!

well 0-60 is 5.9
1/4 mile 14.6

pretty good for a 4 door saloon of that era........ actually from what I have read I believe it was the fastest at the time

you could assume it is plenty fast enough to get me in more trouble than I want :D

I am calling my insurrance to get a qoute tomorrow that could make or break the deal :o

Top Gear. Best d#$% auto show on the tele!

My last "sports car" was a '72 GT Opel, totalled by an 85 year old in an AMC who didn't know how to stop other than crushing me, my car, and my then freshman girlfriend.

Advice. While that stack of receipts may be impressive, remember that you will eventually generate your own stack of receipts. Each of those pieces of paper costs in excess of $200 . . . .

So, here is the advice, the same I gave my wife when we got married: "you can have anything you want in this world, but you can't have everything."

I am presently passing on a 1982 M/B 320SL with both tops in pristine condition at a giveaway price. Why? Because I can't have everything. And it sucks . . . .

oh well.......... I was surfing the M5 boards researching and came across athread about the 1991 I am after and the guy claims he is flying down to pick it up in the morning; looks like I missed my chance prob. for the better any ways

..... deals gap will have to wait Steen :crybaby:
