Starter motor wont' stop until battery is disconnected (2 Viewers)

This is a new one for me. If the battery is connected, the starter motor is spinning. I've knocked on the starter with a hammer - no difference. Any help to get this temporarily to work so I can get it to the shop? '97 LX450

Try swapping the relay with a different one. It might have stuck open. You might try taking it off then plug the battery back on. If all good try one of your other, none crucial, relays. If it works, there you go, if not you have a short to ground. Inspect wiring for breaks if not its in the starter! Take it out and inspect for loose/broke wiring, then clean and replace if good if not replace it. Good luck.

When it happened to me my ignition switch was hanging and it left the starter engaged until it died.

I "tapped" (ahem) it a bit harder and it unstuck the solenoid. Need to replace sooner than later.

Tapped, yeah right! You flat out smacked that thing back into the 1800's! Good work, let us know if you want to head up this way for a wrench-fest.
