I have a flat mount. Run it off my lionenergy 1kwh battery. As I already had it and don’t like pulling largish extra EV loads off my truck.
It pulls 100-150 watts, there are 150w 12v/12.5a converters, should be doable

Has anyone set up a pelican case for the residential version? Which Pelican case did you use?
I have the StarLink case and I'm going to sell it cheep. It's a good case, but it not really heavy weather proof. Likely good in the rain and it has back back straps on it. It's like a suitcase/back pack.
We camp under trees so we like to run the dish out in an open spot.

Isn’t the dish itself waterproof/weather proof?
I have left mine setup in the rain plenty.
Or do you travel with it on the roof or something?
I have been using the box that the dish came in but I don’t love this solution either. It’s too bulky. And the pelican case even more so.
Even that backpack/case that you have, Fisher, seems larger than necessary…. Unless you worry about weatherproofing, I guess.

I'm looking for a case I can put the dish, wires and the router in and tie down to the roof rack. One where is can survive bad weather up there.
The back pack case is really nice, I've used it traveling on the air lines, or like a suit case in the vehicle. I have it setup for both 12volt and the 110.
The Starlink case is small enough to pass for a carry on. I maybe a hair over the limit but I haven't "had to" check it. Now a days they check the small bags for free anyways.

I had a flat mount Starlink that I sent back within the 30 day trial last summer. It was large, we never used it in motion, and in Alaska the satellites are low on the horizon, we had a couple of instances where couldn’t get signal until I disconnected the flat and tilted it ~45 degrees. My plan is to get a regular roam this spring. Let me know if it fits as if so I’ll probably get the same box.
Pelican seems to be suggesting this with their advertising.
The 1615 Air so I'm thinking of going this route (since I have one of these anyways). I'll be up in Ak soon testing it there LOL.
Doesn't lock down, so needs to be tied down. Likely take the foam out of the Starlink case since it's already nicely cut.

Starlink is going to be introducing a Starlink mini that is a 12”X10” unit with built in modem and WiFi 5 router. It’s a $30/month add-on to a residential account. It’s meant to be portable to remote locations and looks like it has a low power draw of 25-40 watts.

I wish they would offer a trade in program for the older models. It would be nice to save on the footprint and power consumption of the latest model.

The older model is too large. I leave it at home on most of my trips.
Though I’m curious as to the monthly cost of the mini.
It’s $30 plus the residential monthly cost, which I think is $150.
So does that mean if I buy the system I can simply pay $180 for the month I want to use the mini and then cancel after the month? Or does the residential make you subscribe to a longer period of time?
I have a couple residential units, they’re $120 a month. The mobile is $150 a month. You can cancel the residential one at any time, no contract.
Also the new mini has a data cap.
I have the dishy one and it’s my backup for home, we live rural’ish so our ATT internet is crap often. We have the portability option but have noticed we rarely get over 30-50 mbps with it. If we dump the portability then get the mini for the additional $30 I may consider it. Idk if I’d turn it off and on just because we camp often but don’t always need the dish.
On another note. I managed to break the motors in our dish on our last trip, long story short it tried to orient after I stuck it in the back of the cruiser avoiding a massive sand/wind/rain storm at great sand dunes. They had a refurbished dish and new router waiting on my when we got home, very pleased with their customer service.

I agree about the customer service, they just want to fix the problem. So they’ve sent me new units as well.
The big upset about starlink’s customer service is that they have a premium service, yet you have to message them on the app, no phone number or email. Maybe I’m odd, but I’d rather pick the phone up and call customer service and tell them the problms. Instead you send a message and sometimes they get back to you in a few hours, sometimes 12 hours. Not what I’m paying for.
Wait… are you saying if you are paying the mobile $150 you can use the mini?

I have the mobile and pay the $150 occasionally on trips.
But all I saw in the press releases was that you can get the mini if you have residential.
Now I wonder if I have to buy a residential unit as well as a mini.
It would be weird bundling that they are doing… but I don’t pretend to know the mind of Elon.
I’m unsure about having the mobile and using the mini, not what I meant though. I received the email, like other starlink users inviting us to buy the mini and it would cost an additional $30 a month to my $120 a month I currently pay for residential. I’d then just have a small mobile unit costing the same per month as having a mobile unit but I’d also have a residential unit. Like I said though, they’re capping data on the mini.
I’m curious if the mini will work in motion like all the other starlink units have been able to do.
