Stupid suspension question:

I've got the Tough Dog 45mm adjustable kit (coilovers, rear springs and shocks).
One rear shock is leaking, so looking to replace... but nobody stocks TD.

I'm NOT trying to replace the whole suspension all the way around.
Ideally, I'd like to keep this as "localized" to the leaking shock as possible.

My best case would be to locate a replacement rear shock and swap out the leading one.
If I can't find a TD shock... Plan B

Plan B: What I'm trying to figure out:
1. Am I ok to just find a compatible (by length?) shock and replace, keeping the TD spring?
2. Assuming I should replace both rear shocks, so they're matched?
3. Other considerations (front to back differences, spring/shock compatability, etc)?

Thanks!

1. yes
2. yes
3. I run ironman springs in my rear and the 45mm TD shocks. You can mix and match to suit.

The TD's are rebuildable, I think, though I have no idea what's involved. How many miles are on your shocks? How badly is it leaking?

Yep, measure the shock's extended and compressed length and find a good match. Buy a pair unless you can find another TD. Not really important that shock (brand) matches front to back as the front and rear have very different damping profiles anyway, but it is important that they match side-to-side.

Thanks @linuxgod.
I’ll look into rebuild as an option

How many miles on the shocks? Not sure. They were installed by the previous owner. I’ve had the LC for ~5years/30k miles. (I’m 99% on-road)

Does anyone know the part number for the transmission drain and overflow plug crush washers? This is for the 8-speed (2019).

I ordered 2x 35178-30010 from McGeorge. They are saying that I need 35178-60010. They are also saying I only need one, but they don't seem to know that overflow plug exists.

TIA

To close the loop on this in case anyone in the future is wondering, apparently the 8-speed uses a filler tube in the drain plug for level adjustment instead of a separate overflow plug. Learn something new every day.

Following up on my leaky shock question.
How badly is it leaking?

The “cleaner” looking one is the driver side, the “dirtier” looking one is the passenger side. How bad is that passenger side?

I’m not sure if that’s “a bad leak”/ replace immediately or if it’s just “weeping”. It’s like a light mist of oily dirt. Rides ok.

Hit it with some degreaser and rinse and then see how quickly oil reappears.

Anyone know the part number for the trim screws in the rear wheel well? I am in a 2021 if that matters. The ones with the Philips head. TIA.

Where in the wheel well? Holding the mud flap on? Fuel fill protector?

I remember some torx and maybe some 10mm/Phillips but no straight Phillips..

If they are the round head torx screws it’s 90166-60003

I'll attach a pic later, but using muh big wordz....

It's on the rear side of the back wheel wells. It indeed holds the mud flap on and also attaches to the rear fender fascia (best I can tell). The mud flap trim piece has two total of these Philips head screw trim pieces. It's not the T30 Torx screws. That'd be too easy unfortunately.

Yeah a pic will help, or later I'll be home and can check my truck.

All I see so far on the diagrams is the torx parts. Will do more digging later with better direction.

If it's the lower of these two the part number is 90467-09127

Would anybody know the weight of the 24gallon LRA tank?
Either empty or full.

I’m trying to compute how much weight I have added to my LC so I can order shocks.

I have looked everywhere, including the LRA web page, and can’t find it.
I saw one place selling them that said 100lbs, but I am not sure how reliable that page is.

Email LRA and then post what they say. They're good to deal with and quick to respond.

Changed the oil for the first time myself the other day on my 2013 LX. When loosening the "cap" that is taken out by using the socket extension, it was on so tight that it removed the filter housing with it. Basically, those 2 pieces were stuck together and I didn't need the plastic drain piece and more importantly, couldn't change the gasket where the cap is.

Is this common? I'm assuming it's from the dealer over tightening. Is it solved by getting a metal housing?

Also, I know this isn't the place, but I'm looking to replace my stock skids/underbody shielding/recovery points with newer OEM ones. If anyone has taken them off to upgrade, let me know - mine are corroded and looking beat up. Posted in the Classifieds but not much traffic there.... Happy to take them off your hands.

I have 21 LC skids you can have for free

Somewhat common, yes. That happening is why I bother torquing even the inner plug to spec with my in-lb wrench. 9ft-lbf/72in-lbf

Metal housing can have that stick too, it’s just less likely that you detonate the whole housing getting it or the drain plug loose.
