A couple beers and a good night on a wrench and you will be driving her home... Hopefully you aren't in the dog house when you get there. Stupid question but are all the fuses good? I HAD TO ASK:D Keep at it and I expect to see atleast a test run clip from a poor quality cell phone:hhmm:

if your dash lights aint on, neither are the tail lights...

Yeah, figured that one out already, and the heater fan doesnt work either. Any ideas? I'm figuring on the master column switch.

Also, where the dickens is the Neutral Safety Switch Relay?

Fired it up tonight to fill the AT, and after about 4 minutes it decided to PUKE AT fluid all over the place. Tried it again, and the same thing happened! Almost comical while at the same time I was loosing it. I was getting a free total AT flush.
Finally figured it out...somehow the AT vent line got connected to an engine vac line, and was pressurizing the system. Never seen that one before!
So, my Lokar throttle cable proved to be the wrong one, but will probably work with a little mod.
Also still gotta find a new connector for my 4L60e reluctor ring that was supplied by Cruiser Outfitters/Downey/AA.

This morning I had to deal with Poly Performance (got mine settled)...and at the University I filed papers for next term's graduation, and actually got my first real job with my MA's! A busy, busy, day!

Yeah, but man it has such a NICE purr to it. Pretty quiet with the cat on, but am sure it will growl with it off. Designed the exhaust cat with flanges so I can remove it when I want (as needed).;)

so only for inspection or when you get hassled?:grinpimp::grinpimp:

oh yea your not allowed to do a thread like this and tell us you got it running and not provide and sound / video clips...
hurry up before we have to BAN you!

just like that lazy hippie AL, builds a cool 60 on an 80 chassis and wont show us any pictures....

Bastards...:flipoff2:

Yeah or atleast show up unexpected and see who's cruiser can hit the skinny pedal harder:grinpimp::flipoff2:

...and that's another reason why I keep looking for cryo rear axles! So I can fully open up a cool refreshing can of 383!

Remember it not all about HP:D But it does help!! Now where are the updates!! :flipoff2:

Just waiting for my correct FSM so I can figure out the bloody neutral safety switch, and ignition wiring situation. Figured out the throttle cable.
Running out of time with a new job, and a heavy final term at the U.
Oh, and I gotta figure out some time to do the overhaul on the front end sometime in the next few months...the seals are shot.

Easy stuff. Just run the starter 12v through your switch then back out. Next! Still didn't see any pic's. But I understand about the job. But inquiring cruiser heads want to know!

Well yeah, that's what I'd think as well, but Im trying to figure out why I've got one terminal...I'd need two terminals.
The other thing is the VSS reluctor ring. It doesnt match the electrical plug, and I gotta go find one that fits the R ring. Evidently I'm wrong in that it wont plug in, cause Advanced Adapters does not make mistakes. A well engineered square peg still wont fit in a round hole.
Might be able to get some time on it tomorrow.

You can buy the plug from GM or a bone yard and rewire your VSS connection...

Look familiar? They do the same thing on the tranny controller. Simple to fix though. Or was I misunderstanding?

You got it. Yeah, its the stupid simple things that seem to take time. I swear if I were doing this for others I'd order half a dozen of each little thing to have about the garage. Save dozens of hours of looking for the GD hammer...
Oh, and if you dont know what a GD hammer is you havent worked on your Cruiser enough!

Just got my 1988 FSM in the mail today! YAY! Now I've got the 88, and the 84 FSM's. EVERYTHING is now covered (mostly twice).
Ray at Specter Off Road has been more than helpfull. Kudos for him (he even shot me a scanned email awhile back with some of the schematics that I needed).

Kinda sucks that for an 88 one needs two books to cover everything...
Example: The 1988 book (pub#RM080U) has 10 pages on the front axle, while the 1984 manual (pub#36262E) has 35 pages. Friggin' nuts!

That's because they weren't sure what they changed out for that year and they said," WTF just put it in that one." Glad to hear your are moving along and you are right YOU HAVE TO OWN A BGD HAMMER to work on a cruiser:hillbilly: And yes I try to have a half a dozen nuts, bolts, Etc for when I can't find the parts 'cause I didn't take it apart or the WTF is this for? and WTF were they thinking?? :bang:

Amen brother.
Called Downey Off Road today, and talked with Tim (I believe it was Technician Tim). VERY nice/knowledgable guy (he also grew up just down my street). Anyhow, they use this particular reluctor ring simply because it is the least expensive of the 5-6 different versions. Evidently the price differences vary wildly from $30-$125 for the reluctor ring. Makes sense that they'd try to build around a commonly inexpensive part.

OH! Spent three hours today at the yards looking for this bloody connector, and finally gave up. Went to the dealership who promptly told me that I was "out of my mind", and "that is not a GM part" at which point I sweetlly replied: "get off your fat a$$ you lazy part monkey...look it up". It was impressive customer service. The manager heard me getting pissed, and within 3 minutes I had the part.

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed to start with...do not anger the Dirty Little Secret or come between him and his Cruiser.

Note: GM Part #88987993 is the entire electrical connector with leads/crimps to fit the Downey Reluctor Ring supplied with the Downey 4L60e to 19 Spline T-case adapter. Its the connector to the left of IAS's pic's, and is for the 1996+ 4L60e transmissions.

Hey, IAS...are you disconnecting the "cehck engine" light from the Toyota ECU, and then connecting the GM ECU "check engine" wire to the Toy light?

on the last one the choke light became the check engine light and on the gwest it has a little red light in the dash that kicks on.

before those 2 i dunno... maybe that helps?:meh:

Thanks Cruisin. Was just wondering whether there's any reason to keeping the original Toyota "check engine" light connected...or if its just fair game to keep the installation smooth.
