I agree.

your weak point is axles even with polys and longs.

then its how much power and gear reduction and your driving style.

I fully plan on running 39.5's on my 60 when i go SOA, and i think 42's are still in the playing area if you have other drivetrain to hold them. I know josh baker is running 42's on his 60 buggy but im pretty sure he is on tons and i have no idea what he is sportin for the rest of the drivetrain so it may not be a very good example.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone blow up a split case.

That is where I am going with this. The outputs seem massive when compared to the early 3-4 speed cases. If those can hold up to 37-39's it seems the splitcase output, especially the front, would hold up to more.

I never seen a BF1A broken even with V8 with good HP on top .. if would depends on your right foot, engine, tires, weight and kind of surfaces for off road ..

42

49 and 54's are too big for D60's and 14 bolts..

where is the limitation in the splitcase?

plain and simple; gearing. :frown:

i think that the split case is probably the best case toyota ever produced. i like them a lot. i just wish that somebody would make a 4:1 gear set for them. i have brought this up to several manufacturers/vendors but everybody is really watching their pennies these days and they can't afford to take a risk.

i think a low geared split case would be superrior to the orion, hand down.

i realize that mark;s from oz makes a gear set for these but they run notoriously hot and noisy, besides, the low range is only 3.15:1

scotty, if you need a split case to tinker with, hit me up. i have a few at the shop nd would be more than happy to set you up with a loaner for some "research".

the case would likely give before anything else would inside it, would it not? (presuming big enough tires and power)

still a good option .. ran mine with marks gears for 5 years or so .. and cetranly are more noisy than stock gears nothing that sound more than a MT tires on the HW ..

Your axle gearing is a big variable on how much stress you place on the t-case. A lot of the mini truck guys that were snapping outputs have been able to make them live by switching from 4.10's to 5.29's

my next gear set will be goin from 4.56 to 5.29 in my 60...
